The Slappa Bally-Hide Laptop Shoulder Bag is essentially a combination of a ladies purse and a laptop bag. Although this bag is designed for a woman it could potentially be used by a man as the design isn’t overly feminine. Highlights of the bag include a padded laptop compartment with a Velcro closure, leather accents, a shoulder strap and nine pockets.

Thanks for the review. I like top-loading bags such as this because they are more convenient to use than most bags. However, I also like my bags to be very light so that they don't add significantly to the load. How much does this bag weigh? It would also be useful to give the internal dimensions so that people can decide if their computer can fit given that it is nominally a 15.4" bag while most of the current notebooks are a wider 15.6".

And given that Slappa are using a US$1 = £1 exchange rate (so this bag becomes £124.95), I'll have to feel rich before buy one.

I expect to be called "sour grapes" for this response, but I have to air my thoughts here. I'm always very open to honest reviews and appreciate the commentary on the shoulder strap needing more padding (this is something we will take care of immediately). My only issue is the commentary about the colors--really, you need more black bags? At trade shows and via emails customers are always asking for more colors, and tell us that they love the burnt orange. My point is, color is a personal choice and while the green/brown combo didn't do it for you, I don't think it's borderline hideous (because obviously if we thought that, we would have never made those colors)...but really my biggest question came via one of the cons being it holds up to a 16" laptop...why is that a con? It's a 16" laptop bag. Anyway, thanks for the review--we are always listening to EVERY comment that comes our way.

John, with regards to the measurements the inner measurements are 15 3/8" long, 4.5" dep and 14 3/8" high. With regards to "SLAPPA using a US $1= £1 exchange rate" that is not an accurate comment. Please remember that the UK requires we add the 17.5% VAT into the product price--this is a tax that is not incurred by U.S. customers, and is a significant cost to add onto the product. Let's make sure we're comparing apples to apples.

    Thanks

    Dom at SLAPPA

Nice review Amber. The design of the bag looks very professional and the leather accents plus suede lining adds a nice luxury touch; but I have to say that the colors do not exactly compliment this style. This isn't to say I do not like the burnt orange and green colors, but such a classic/business style bag would be better in blacks, browns or even dark navy blue.

I share you dislike of black bags and while happy to be seen carrying the green/brown, I'm less convinced about the orange.

Thanks for that data. However, did anyone ever weigh one of these bags? (I'm very sensitive about the weight after once having a bag that weighed 2kg / 4.5lb empty.) IMO dimensions and weight should be published so that potential purchasers are better informed.

I agree that the US prices do not include taxes but, if I convert the current US sale price ($115) using the current exchange rate of £1 = $1.55 and add 17.5% VAT, I get £87.18. The UK price is £124.95 which represents the generous mark-up of 43%.

Herein lies the beauty of the internet and how one can quickly respond to the feedback of folk. Today at SLAPPA we agreed to discontinue the brown version of the Bally Hide bag. There is a long (and good) reason for this, and as we announce our new 2011 products in about 2 weeks you'll see why we came to this decision, but I can tell you that this post played a big part in the decision. More to come on this.

John, with regards to pricing again apples to apples. Why is it that if we are running a sale in the USA is it assumed that the same sale would run everywhere else? why is it assumed by you that the cost structure of doing business in the UK is the same as the USA? There are too many factors here to list.

In short, PM me if there is something more I can help with (btw, the weight of the bag empty is 3.4 lbs)

Thanks for the weight. It's more than I'm used to carrying.

Since you are open to suggestions, perhaps you can add something like this to your range (it's my current bag which may eventually wear out but weighs only 1.4 lbs)?
