ShaggyMAC, who is well known for their microfiber cloths, has released a new cleaning product called OptiMist Prime. I know, you're already thinking, who needs another screen cleaning solution. Well, through our tests the product performs very well, streaking less and leaving a more smooth surface than comparable sprays.

    OptiMist Prime Specifications

    OptiMist Prime Overview and Usage

ShaggyMAC calls OptiMist Prime an advanced, molecular level formula, engineered to safely clean the most sensitive optical surfaces without streaks or haze. Okay, so that sounds like a nice pile of marketing bull right? But they go on to make a solid argument. The clear formula does not include any alcohol, detergents, vinegar, dyes, ammonias, acids, phosphates, chlorides or caustics. Not that other cleaners all include one or some of these items, but this one doesn't and in an industry where ingredients are not on the bottle, that's good to know.

Using OptiMist Prime is pretty straightforward. Aim and spray, then wipe clean with microfiber cloth. Of course ShaggyMAC sells cloths as well; though any works fine should you already have one. With this product I found less is more. It really doesn't take much to get your standard assortment of dust, grime, sneezes, or whatever off the display. It's also easier to clean with less liquid, so I recommend working up, rather than using too much to start with.

I tested on a few notebooks, PDAs, LCD panels and the LCD television in our office. The OptiMist Prime worked well on each surface, without streaking, something that not all cleaning products can claim. I also used it on my notebook's lid, keyboard and other surfaces to get off the day-to-day build-up. Again the cleaner did a great job.

    Conclusion

If you want a quality cleaning solution that won't streak or damage delicate optical surfaces, look no further than OptiMist Prime. At $9.99 for 5 ounce bottle, it's not cheap, but the quality is well worth it and while I don't know how many sprays are in each bottle, my guess is there are nearly a thousand, so it's going to last a long time.

Order OptiMist Prime directly from ShaggyMAC for $9.99 per 5 ounce bottle.

Brian, did you test this on your Transformers collection as well? Given the name of the product, you'd think it's a dual notebook screen / robot cleaner.

Image of Optimus Prime attached for the sake of nostalgia. Obviously the folks at Shaggy Mac are making an obtuse reference to this robot in hopes of attracting geeks.

They have to be. I almost added a reference to the review but wasn't sure how many people would get it.

I am about to order - maybe half hour from now - has anyone used their Grubby Sticks to clean their keyboard, are they tons better than a q-tip? 2 for $5 sounds kinda expensive, but I suppose if they are reusable, why not (if they work)? Thanks.

I got the ShaggyMac 15" notebook screen protector, the Optimist Prime Spray, and a can of air (good price) - $50 shipped, quite a good price by the time you take into account everything I got. I will le you all know what I think when it is here.

Wow -- guess this means that I can't lick a finger-tip, swipe it over the offending screen part and then buff it up w/ a glasses cleaning cloth anymore (I am, sadly, bi-focaled -- German import Zeiss progressive -- so I always have cleaning cloths around) -- that has worked better than any commercial product I have encountered from the single-pack handy-wipe types, to the wet/dry wipes, to the sprays w/ their special cloths....oh well, guess it is time to spend big $$$'s and get "modren"

I got the stuff yesterday, it works wonderfully. The screen cleaner doesn't leave streaks and does get the screen plenty clean. The cloths and keyboard protector are nicer than any other that I have ever seen or used. I would reccomed them to other people.
