ehhh....the review isn't the greatest. they really didn't have anything to compare to. it's just them saying, i think this is good. i love how for the pcmark scores, the only thing that they mention is the speed of the cpu. and of course the speed of their cpu is the fastest, so you would expect it to have higher pcmark scores.

Aside from the 3DMark score, they make it sound like the GeForce 8600M GT is little more than a pumped up GMA. Essentially, they are guessing that it is faster than the GMA X3100? Ya think?

One would hope that the Go8600GT is faster than the X3100. And there is no way that it is even close to similar to the X360 graphics (isn't that done by ATI?)

And overall, that is a very very crappy review. I do like the fact that they had some numbers there, makes it useful to make real comparisons of our own.

    Laptop specs: T7500 (2.2GHz), 1GB memory, Go8600GT (512MB)
    PCMark05: 4,312 | PCMark06: 3,668 | BatteryEater: 74 minutes

    Comparisons:
    Asus V1Jp: PCMark05: 4,701 | 3DMark06: 1,877
    Asus G1: 3DMark06: 2389
    Dell E1705: PCMark05: 4,994

    Battery life figures forthcoming.

    I wouldn't even call that a review.

Now I remember why I stopped reading cnet when I was like 12.

As powerful as that machine is, I've yet to see something (besides the Clevo M570U) beat my all-time favorite machine, the Alienware Aurora M-7700:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2841
PCMark05: 5,597 vs the PCMark05: 4,312 this laptop got. Of course I was running XP Pro on the M-7700 and Vista was running on Cnet's test machine I assume, but there winner is pretty clear.

The new Asus desktop replacements (with Conroe) should beat that Alienware. But personally, I think that comparing a desktop processor with a notebook processor is kinda nuts anyways, seeing as the Alienware weighs 13lbs, probably double what the average Santa Rosa notebook will weigh. And in the graphics department, the Go8600 was pretty close to the Go7800.
