Sager will be coming out with the world's first quad-core notebook on September 20 with the introduction of the NP9261. The NP9261 is an update to the NP9260, which is based on the Clevo D900C/D901C. We reviewed the NP9260 here. The main difference between the models is that the NP9261 features the new Ver. 5.1a motherboard revision, which will officially support Intel G0-stepping quad-core processors.

While the NP9260 did boot with an Intel quad-core processor installed, it was not stable and Sager did not endorse using the processors. The official explanation from Sager on why they did not use quad-core processors in the NP9260 can be found here in the forums. However now with the motherboard revision changed to ver 5.1a from ver 4.x, G0-stepping quad-core processors will be supported. Sager expects to start shipping the quad-core notebooks before or around the middle of October.

Yay... quad-core [which is officially supported by the ODM]. :D

    Clevo D900K = world's first dual-core notebook

    Clevo M590K = world's first SLI notebook

    Clevo D900C/D901C = world's first quad-core notebook

Clevo M570RU & D900C/D901C = first to use the new [and unpublicized by Nvidia] MXM-IV slots

Leave it to Clevo to put out the highest performing notebooks [way before the others].

    Definitely...

    :notworthy: Clevo FTW!!! :notworthy:

    (shhh...)

Phenom X4 is being worked on by Clevo too... ;)

It should still retain the D900 model name (since it will more than likely have the same chassis as the D900C/D901C)

Oh my lord, a quad core processor... Think about how much power this mammoth is gonna need. I really don't see the point to this laptop.

It was already the world's fastest notebook before this announcement with a 280watt power supply.

Now it just got faster. :)

Since this is the first quad core notebook, does that mean quad core will become mainstream soon?

That is still a long way off. This laptop requires 280 W of power, this is by no means even close to a definition of a mainstream laptop because of the power and the size. Big, power hungry, expensive, and big. Its going to take quite a while before quad-core hits mainstream...I'd imagine it would have to be able to fit in a 1" thick laptop, use 90-120W full load (tops), and cost around $1000-$1500 before it hits mainstream.

So this likely means Core 2 Duo laptop prices are going to be going down, as other companies are going to want to follow the same suit as Sager.

I personally won't be needing a Quad-Core laptop, as what I plan on doing with mine won't require something that powerful. However, if you plan on doing lots of gaming, then you may be needing one.

This is a monster, it will slaughter any non-SLI desktop system out there! So, who can give me $3500 to go buy one? :D

I knew it wouldn't be long,I do agree with Greg and that they will need to take care of certain aspects before this hits the market.Still impressive at any rate.

Nice quad core. I hope they cut down the power consuption. 280W is way too high.

and Sager is rebranded Clevo is it?

is this desktop Q6600 quad core? or is it mobile version?
if it is the desktop version then... yes i do believe that the computer will eventually fail if they put in quad core processor. no heatsink with current technology is good enough to cool that kind of heat. with that kind of thickness i remeber seeing desktop pentium 4 - 85w tdp crammed into that space going dead after 1-2 years. imagine 105w tdp... edit: i just remember that they said G0 so 95w tdp, still HOT! :) sizling

is that 280w include graphic card? i presume the people who bought this laptop want to run dual Graphic card.

    This is a re-branded Clevo D900C/D901C.

This notebook uses desktop Core 2 Duo's/Extreme and now Quads (G0 stepping).

The G0 stepping CPU's is 95w TDP... as compared to the first Q6600, which had 105w TDP.

G0 is indeed 95W TDP but the older B3 revision ones are 105W TDP, not 135W. I have a B3 Q6600 in my desktop, its a beast but gets rather hot of course.

    yea you're right. :)

    old Intel Q6600 is a 105 watt

This can increase by an additional 10 to 15 watts under extreme max load conditions.

Exactly, so how does this differ from the Quad Core D900C Phantom-X already on offer from Eurocom?

OK, please read the Clevo Guide for more info.

the big 3 Clevo distributors in North America are:
    - Sager
    - Eurocom
    - Pro-Star/M-tech

between them, Sager distributes the most systems to other vendors and resellers who re-brand them.

So these companies will have the direct link to Clevo for information and updates.
