he can easily get another 50-100 points if he optimizes the OS:
    - disable resource hogs (System Restore, Antivirus, Spyware detectors)
    - switch GUI to Classic Mode

    On the fan noise...

I have the previous model, Sager NP5760 and with every Windows Vista version I tried (Home Premium, Enterprise, Ultimate) the fans were on constantly, or like you described - at least one of the fans would go on and off.

However... I have since ditched Vista and returned to a dual boot XP and Linux and they both only turn on the fans under a high load. Much more quiet and peaceful when using the computer. I rarely hear the fans under normal usage (i.e. not playing 3D intensive games).

I pursued the issue about six months ago and many suggested turning off Vista's Aeroglass and other eyecandy, but that didn't help Under linux I am using beryl with all the eyecandy and still no fans unless I play Doom or Quake.

Not sure which OS you got because I haven't read this thread in a while, so I'll ask.

I just installed my Windows XP Media Center 2005, and the driver CD (both of them) says "This OS is not compatible with the CD" or something. And it's really pissing me off, because I need to get to the internet to download some more updates. And to get Realtek drivers, and everything else I need, etc.

    Help? :(

If you install Media Center 2005, it looks for a certain hardware configuration... thats why it might give you that error.

    @ lawlz
Did your hdd temp stay at 48° while using hd tune?
I'm running the error scan right now and my hdd (120gb 7200rpm) temp is 57°, would that be a bad sign?!
Speedfan claims the CPUs are at 21 and 24° and GPU temps won't work.
I'm not really sure if those temps are true, could it be related to vista 64bit?
EDIT:Zalman is running at full speed
EDIT2: Just ran the benchmark and I got similar results with temp at 54/55°

For the GPU temps, I assume you're using RivaTuner. Currently, there is no fix for 64-bit Vista but for 32-bits, Turn off UAC then run RivaTuner in compatibility with Windows XP SP2.

As for my temperatures, it really varies and your room temperature also has a big part when it comes to your hard drive, CPU, etc. temps.

I.E. My hard drive is usually over 55C if my room temperature is 80-90F but it stays somewhere in the 29C range if my room temperature is around 40-60F.

My CPU is usually around the 55C range when its 80-90F but is only around the 45-50C range when my room temperature is around 40-50F.

Right now my room temperature is around 50-60C and my CPU temp is 29C and my HD temp is 31C. It really varies...

P.S. I am not using a notebook cooler.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but what's the idle fan noise like?

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400/e1705 at the moment and I'm thinking of upgrading to this laptop, but am a bit concerned about the noise. The 9400 is silent under idle or low CPU usage, but can get pretty noisy after playing WoW for a while. I'm not too concerned about noise under load, since I tend to wear my headphones when gaming anyway, but I don't want something that sounds like a vacuum cleaner when idle...

Also, I've never used a laptop cooler before, but how well do they tend to work in general? Do they just increase the life span of the components, or do they really reduce heat enough to prevent triggering the loud fans?

This notebook is not noisy, the fans are noticeable if you are trying to listen for them... but they are not annoying.

The notebook cooler is not just for cooling (which would help prevent the notebook fans from triggering).....

The airflow from the cooler is constant. However, the room temp (as well as humidity) plays a huge role it the type of air that is being cycled.

The main thing that I would recommend the notebook cooler is not just the fans or airflow... rather:
    - having the notebook elevated and tilted
    - having a guarantee that the notebook in on a flat and cool surface.

if the room were cooler you would see a lower temp, if the room were higher you would experience stable temps.

My notebook cooler does not seem to be so noticeably useful when its a normal room temp.

The temps are still stable, if I were to leave my notebook on a table, the table's surface will start warming up after a while of gaming, then the temps rise. The temps may not be impressive on a notebook cooler (during average days), but they are stable and dont fluctuate.

Hope this clears it up a bit,
    -Gophn

To be honest I don't think you made a terrible mistake. I don't know if you are suddenly lucky and your fans stopped to work, but my Clevo is terribly loud and I can't imagine yours can be that different. Look at your other thread "I feel so stupid" and please give me an aswer.
    Look at my video
The high constant metallic noise is the videocam. You can easly identify it... At sec. -24 you can clearly hear the fans starting to work.

Well a constant sound from a fan is to be expected from a gaming notebook... it should be noticeable if you are listening for it.... but it should not be annoying.

And if you are gaming and pay attention to the fans... then you got problems.

The problem is not the constant sound... This is not loud... the problem are the fans running more or less every minutes... those are not loud but EXTREMELY loud...

if you use a good notebook cooler.... like Zalman ZM-NC1000

some of those fans would not turn on at all if the system is cool enough to not trigger them on.

the lower, the better chance of the fans not coming on

Hey, for all you Clevo / Sager people out there, are the mini pcie and bluetooth modules fairly easy to get to? In the picture on the first page, it looks like the mini pci-e wifi module is at the top right, and the bluetooth module is top center... is that correct?

Do you think that the lappy should be able to take any mini pcie wifi card and a different bluetooth module? I think i'll be ordering my lappy from eurocom (cheapest), and they don't include either standard, and i'm pretty sure i can find different ones for less elsewhere.

If someone wants to be realllllly nice and take some up close pictures of those two modules tonight, i would be your best friend!

Somebody said something about upgrading the processor T7300 to a T7500 ? Is it true or did I get the wrong section?

I am asking because I am still waiting for my Sager 5790 and I would like to know what to expect...in the meantime, temperature values scare me and the way you guys speak about hdd and cpu temps makes me WANT a notebook cooler...like the Zalman... Is it really that bad(the fans noise and heat)?

it always a good idea to get as much cooling as possible to protect your investment... a gaming notebook.

the noise and heat are typical for gaming notebooks.... just make sure to monitor the temps and the fans/vents are clear from blockages.

Since today I'm the owner of a XXODD XNi570ru (dutch reseller) which is also a Clevo M570RU. Like 6edo my second fan kicks in every 1-2 minutes or so for a short while. It sounds like a vacuumcleaner and I find it really horrible. It totally kills all the fun I should have from getting a new machine.

I wonder if every Clevo M570RU experiences this kind of behaviour because if so I find it surprising that not more people would complain about this. Maybe only 8700M owners experience this? I would really appreciate some advice on how to fix this.

    My specs:
    T7700
    8700GT
    4GB RAM
    7200RPM HD
    Windows Vista 64bit

As of 8/31 I have been the happy owner of a Clevo M57ORU. I hardly notice any noise.
To be honest, the only time it even occurs to me is when I read about the noise. It really comes down to how quiet your environment is or want/need it to be.

As a side note, I was extremely pleased with R&J Technology. They were polite and knowledgeable.

It is noisy , it is true, but if you have a good headset or speaker system, unless you actually focus ON THE NOISE, you won't notice it. And the fact that the 2nd fan kicks in makes this one helluva COOL ( and i mean that also in temps) laptop, you can't even say it's getting hot under high gaming requirements...at least not mine :D

Agreed. :) Many people seem to think that the Go7950GTX is running extremely HOT in this notebook but I gotta say it actually runs MUCH cooler than most other notebooks because of the excellent cooling design of the notebook. I can confirm that my Sager NP5790 with a Go7950GTX runs half as hot as my brother's Asus G1 with a Go7700 or my old Toshiba M40 with a Go6600. ;)

    I just ran a 3dmark06 and got 5389 ( because I have a 5400 RPM hdd) . Pretty good I might say,considering the specs:
