We defragmented the hard drive and did a Windows Update before all testing. We ran the stock Sager Drivers for the 8800M GTX. The LaptopVideo2Go 169.12 and 169.09 would not load on the 5792. All frames per second (FPS) benchmarks were done with FRAPS. The 5792 GPU ran at 46c during normal desktop operation. The stock Core of the 8800M GTX is 500MHz and Memory 799MHz

Cinebench is a rendering benchmark tool based on the powerful 3D software, CINEMA 4D v. 10. Its rendering tasks can stress up to sixteen multiprocessors on the same computer.

We ran Cinebench with 32-bit color depth at a 1920 x1200 resolution & stock Sager Video Driver.

    Conclusion

Overall the system ran very well during all testing. The GPU fan kicked on during most of the benchmarks and the CPU fan ran at a low RPM. We didn't notice hardly any heat coming up from the keyboard or wrist pad area. The games looked amazing in person. :) [/B]

Man that 8800M-GTX is a BEAST - from the looks of it, that single card is better than Go7950GTX SLI and it does it with less power consumption and less heat.

Nice job on the benchmarks! I'd be interested to see how this thing overclocks too. :)

Overclocking results are soon to come. We are hoping to have OCing completed tomorrow. I also can not wait to see the final marks on what it can do OC'd. :D

    It is a beast!

Those Crysis results are disappointing, for all medium settings. How about testing everything at high and very high?

The stock Sager drivers were being used. We were unable to load the 64-Bit drivers from laptopvideo2go. :( I am sure once a updated driver is released we will see better real world performance. :)

We were able to Overclock it and the AVG Frames went up 10 frames and 3D06 went up 9400+. We will be doing some more testing with higher settings and will post the details next week.

I can software overclock with the 169.04 vista64bit from laptopvideo2go and ntune, but all the ones above are 'broken' for software overclocking for me, this is dell M90, vista 64 sp1

    I think 169.09 was optimised/had a fix, for Crysis

Will you get better benchmarks with actual game, noticed first link had single player demo

    cheers

Wow, that is very impressive. Nvidia disappointed with the 8700GT, but the 8800GTX is a huge step above the 7950GTX. I'm still happy with my 7950GTX's though :)

The demo wasn't that different from the final release, from what I can remember.

In your next article, with the GPU overclocked, could you test Crysis at High or Very High settings?

Most people will live with 8-15 FPS for High settings, like me. We bought the game for it's pretty looks, not to play 30fps at Low/Medium. :(

Nice, but you should run the 8800m GTX in UT3 at max settings in 1920x1200.

If my 8700m GT can achieve 26fps average at those settings (non OCed) in large maps, I bet the 8800 could do twice that or more :D

if It can even do 50fps in those settings on UT3 I'm sold, and IMO it'll be worth the $745 for the damn card :)

Damn fine. I was quite surprised to see the M570RU in the picture :) Are there any rumors on having the capability of a 9 series in this beast? I don't wanna up to 8800 if a 9 series is coming. High-end 7 series will do me fine for now.

Well, I'll admit I cheated my ass off. I only bought the game so I could drive around in the Humvee's and Tanks. Kind of like GTA but in the jungles.

After that excitement wore off I finally played it on easy difficulty without cheats to see what the story was like. Than I cheated some more near the end when the frame rate did become rather low (8FPS) but I didn't want to turn down the graphic options.

Anyways, if you're in it to drive around in the forests it's easy to live with 8FPS. *falls*

Unfortunately for me there were no cheats to give the vehicles 100% health. So cheating wasn't that beneficial anyways. *laughs*

Anyways, it just pissed me off that I payed $50 for a game that'd only look remotely good on a system with SLI'ed 8800 GTX/Ultras. So, it still looked good on my dog and pony show of a laptop, just with some minor consequences.

I look forward to playing this game again in 2010 when I buy the next MacBook Ultra that features the NVidia Geforce X1000 1GB 1024bit graphics card. Than I can play it in HD with all the bells and whistles. You know, like how they advertise it today, in 2007. *falls*

Edit: I played it in Windows XP, in Boot Camp, at 800x600x32, 0xAA/8xAF, on a 47" LCD TV. It was kind of like a really good looking PS2 game.. with the PS2 lagging. ;)

    Hi Justin,

For European buyers (French in my case), do you provide European Power Lead/Cord? Because I don't find where to mention it in the customize/buy or checkout process. (May be it's not available).
TIA (I already asked in Chat Live but i didn't receive any answer)

Since I work at a similar establishment (though value-oriented) as the thread starter, I've had the chance to carry home and benchmark a M570RU with Go7950GTX similar to the one you benchmarked (T7700, 4GB, 160GB 7200rpm Seagate 7200.2, WSXGA+ matte screen). Its a damn beast to carry, also scored 5100 in 3DMark06 with stock 100-series drivers. So 8800M-GTX is close to 2/3 more powerful. Any idea when we can expect widespread availability of the barebone with the 1680x1050 matte screen and 8800?

its always bad that such notebooks are so expensive. An 8800m gtx notebook will cost arround € 2200

But a desktop with same 3dmark06 score can be build with only €700.

Don't think anyone here would argue that a laptop offers the best performance or the best value for gaming!

If anything, I am almost anti-laptop  in that I don't completely understand the need for an ultra-hi-end gaming laptop if you have room for a desktop (24" LCD, ProMedia 2.1, full-size keyboard, etc.)

However, for a lot of people who travel a lot, have a few residences, go to school, or other situations where you are not 'home' during leisure time, these laptops are godsends as they allow good performance as long as they are 6' from an AC outlet :D

I am in the situation where I have a single home and room/desire for a large desktop system - but that could change someday, and I will buy a computer like this.

So if I stick a Dual SLI 8800m GTX card into my laptop (specs below), which kind of 3DMark06 score am I looking at, and would I be able to play Crysis, maybe not at Ultra high, but all settings at High?

Im getting the 8800 SLI card very soon, and just wanted to know what to expect. At the moment, with the dual 8700's Im egtting a 3DMark06 score of around 8830 - which is what your single 8800 can do! In SLI the 8800GTX's should be awesome!

Hmm, I still don't really see the point in these gaming laptops. For that amount of money, I'd rather just stick to playing slightly older games while on the move.

That's your personal choice, and you're surely not the only one.
My choice, and I'm not alone either, is to have a decent laptop to play the (almost) latest games.

I have the sli 8800m GTX (dell xps m1730, 2.4 ghz core 2 duo) & am a little dissapointed with my 3d mark 06 score. Under single gpu default test it's fine (8700 marks) but sli only raises it to approx 10700 - 10800. Drivers are 167.55. I tried the newest 174.16 drivers and actually went down in performance so returned to stock drivers. No overclocks on anything but am still dissapointed, some have reported I should expect 12,000 marks at least.
