Reading the latest edition of The Pulse – Forums Abuzz with Speculation of NVIDIA Kepler GPUs – got me thinking about the rumor mill and how it drives market expectations. In this case, a Chinese language site posted information about forthcoming Kepler GPUs, before NVIDIA made any statement. Some members of the forum accepted it as fact. Others were more skeptical. So I’m curious. What is the lever for you that makes you move beyond thinking such information is conspiracy/nonsense to investing your belief in it?

What makes you accept it? Is it the source? A preponderance of trusted colleagues saying its true? Or is it simply that you really want to believe it because it’s something you want to see or you want to be the first person to say “This is going to happen”?

In such cases, have you ever been burned by your misplaced enthusiasm or gotten accolades for being the one with the scoop?
