You might have seen TV commercials for rugged notebooks, but what makes a laptop truly rugged? Are these extremely durable laptops just for war zones, or do they belong in the battlefield of your home office as well? Keep reading to find out if your laptop has what it takes to survive.

A refurbished Business Class laptop almost always a better buy (in value) than any new laptop of similar specification, even ones with newer processors.

A $500 refurbished Lenovo T400 or HP Elitebook 6930P 14.1" WXGA+ LED with a 1 year warranty is the best. Top up the RAM and throw in an SDD or SDD Hybrid and that's tough to beat in overall value.

    Travel or no travel.

This is an underrated article on NBR :)

@Arom: funny, I just came to the same conclusion one month ago. Rather than buying a cheapie vostro 3400, I went for the laptop in my sig. Cost me 620€, with the new HDD.

Didn't even notice this article when it was published - just gave it a read through, and it was very informative (had no idea Lenovo even thought about the shape of the drainage holes...). :)

I find it funny that this thread is supposed to help people make a decision as to what rugged computer to buy and Panasonic's Toughbooks aren't even listed... They are the ORIGINAL rugged computers...

Glad you said that.I was begining to think that I was the only one to notice the omision.Or even worse that somehow Toughbooks are not regarded as belonging to the category.
