Shrouded in mystery, all we know about this notebook dubbed Qosmio by Toshiba is that it will have instant on TV with no laptop boot up required, and the most amazing laptop screen ever, as self proclaimed by Toshiba. This notebook should be announced next week. Just for fun, try clicking the following link to see where it goes: http://www.qosmio-info.com/
We have no pictures andfew specs forthis notebook. Toshiba is keeping very quiet about what it is exactly. We do know that Qosmio will be Toshiba's first laptop to fully integrate audio and video features. Toshiba claims the screen will be amazinglybright and near TV-quality display. Also included will be aDVD drive, TV tuner, and enhanced speakers.
Most importantly though, a person will be ableclick on the TV with the laptop's remote control or watch a DVD movie without having toboot up the notebook. So, is it then a TV or a computer? Well, both. However, if you want to pause live TV or record TV shows the OS will have to be booted. The 80-gigabyte hard disk will provide enough space to record a good amount of TV.
A 15-inch model of the Qosmio shouldbe available in August. The price should be around $2,500. The screen will not initially be a widescreen, but eventually Toshiba will offer such a version.
Averatec will be introducing a similar no bootup laptop for watching DVDs very soon, however the Averatec notebook will not include a TV as far as we know.
Toshiba will certainly be the first to offer a notebook of this kind, but analysts say to expect more and that this is just the opening shot in a new class of multimedia products that combine notebooks with other electronic features.
