Nvidia today announced the new Quadro FX 3500M graphics solution, a new high-end card geared towards CAD designers that supports OpenGL along with DirectX and offers up to 512MB G-DDR3 memory, a 56-bit memory interface and up to 38.4GB/s bandwidth. The Dell Precision M90 workstation is the first notebook to offer this new Nvidia card. While the Quadro FX 3500 M isn't targeted at gamers per se, it will perform in line with the Nvidia Go 7900 GTX gaming graphics card.

According to statements from director of Precision workstations at Dell, Antonio Julio, "As the leading mobile workstation provider worldwide, Dell understands best-in class-performance is a priority for workstation customers, because it translates directly to improved productivity. Teaming with NVIDIA to offer the next-generation professional-class graphics solution enables us to design a mobile platform that truly delivers desktop-class performance."

3D Graphics design applications such as SoftImage XSI6 will benefit greatly from the high power Quadro FX 3500M (view large image)

NVIDIA Quadro FX mobile solutions offer the same features found in industry-leading NVIDIA workstation solutions for desktop-based professional workstations, including exclusive features such as 12-bit sub-pixel precision, and full 32-bit floating point precision, as well as a host of unequaled capabilities that NVIDIA Quadro desktop-based users have simply become accustomed to. With this power in a mobile graphics card format, CAD designers and other Digital Content Creation workers will be able to take their design work wherever they go (for better or worse). On the bright side, they'll also be able to run the latest games on their notebook to unwind a bit after a long day of designing 3D models.

    Availabiity

The NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500M is available immediately for the Dell Precision M90 via Dell.com.

SoftImage XSi? Or is that just a rendering program? (the only 3D graphics programme I've ever used is gMax)

That is an impressive mobile workstation card. Did I just hear a collective groan from the workers who will now have their work to take home with them on weekends?

    The M90.

A monster made even more powerful.

At almost $700 extra over the 2500M, however, whether or not it's a worthy upgrade option is debatable...

Do you think the quadro fx 3500m will ever be available as a stand alone product that you could buy as an upgrade to an existing M90 or cleavo M570U/sager np5760? If yes, then when?
