It's that time again - time for us to find out what our readers are looking for when they're researching a notebook purchase. We think we have a pretty good idea, but it's good to get some nice hard numbers - no fuzzy math involved.
At this time, we're really just looking for people who are currently researching which notebook they want to buy. If you aren't looking to buy now, a lot of the questions just won't make sense.
To thank you for your time, we will be rewarding four people with $50 Amazon gift cards. At the end of the survey, you can submit your email address for a chance to win. Four email addresses will be picked randomly from all of the completed surveys. We'll send a message to those four people and if we hear back, then we'll send you a gift card!
We really appreciate your feedback!
UPDATE (12/10): We've closed the survey. Thanks to everyone who responded!

That was a short survey... And there was not an option for Asus laptops!
-
Asus is there
-
LIES!!!!!!!!! If it was, it was disguised as another brand... Or i'm crazy. Either way...
-
Edit: Also with the Operating system , to me there was only Windows OS. -
Lol~ Maybe Ben added it as soon as he saw your post

"Which of the following is MOST important to you in the buying decision? (choose one)"
The most important one doesn't mean much, because we usually have a few things that are very important, than all the rest, it should let us rank them, so that you know my 2nd choice is much more important than my last choice, instead of 1 > 2 = 3 = 4 = 5 = 6 = 7 now.
Expert > Proficient is it?
"Which version of Microsoft Office would you plan to buy with this notebook?"

Which version of windows do you plan to buy...a second hand ultraportabnle with win XP Pro?

HEY there is no South America in the options! I had to write Im from North America wich is not true!
-
Hm. Had to vote Vista Home Premium, but I'm intending on putting XP on the next one. It would be silly of me to get a somewhat performance-compromised ultraportable with the bloated hog that is Vista.
-
Seemed like a pretty smooth survey. -
-
You should generalize including almost all possibilities. -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Easy enough ... also did not like the fact that they restricted the OS to Vista flavors only.
-
BTW, what if someone plans to buy Windows 7 on their next purchase?
-
Well I am sure there is a reason they asked the questions in a certain way since they want certain types of data but just as an outside observer I could see where the OS and Productivity Suite question could provide misleading results.
-
the ms office question was kind of wierd
what if you'd rather use open office or dont even have a remote need for office -

One area where I believe Notebook Review is noteably lacking, is in reviewing and comparing the low end laptops. They probably account for 70+ percent of the market. I realize that most of the ACTIVE forum members are not really keen on the $600 dollar meat and potatoes machines, but as most things internet the vast majority of viewers/lurkers that visit this site want to know if that RM-70 equipped HP at Best Buy is compareable to the T3200 Toshiba thats on sale at Office Depot this week.
This is an open ended request to the editors at Notebook review, take a hard look at your true constituancy and adjust accordingly! -
Done I liked the "advertisement" question most
-
What's with this "Which Version of Windows" stuff. How about - OSX?
-
Price? What kind of price ?

Additions to Survey:
Operating system: Windows XP
Which is why I am looking at Lenovo, or Asus, as I know I can run XP on either. Leaning toward Lenovo as I can get one with XP installed. My software does not run well on Vista.
Microsoft Office - no thanks.
Open Office works quite well for my needs.
Thanks for asking! -
I concur on Office, but if you work in major corporations, you'd better have, and use MS Office, otherwise the corporate IT Department will disown you! Closed thinking, yes on their part, but it's also reality in most of corporate America.
I use OpenOffice and other office programs at home, but not in the corporate world in which I work. When you're working on a multi-million dollar proposal with attendant spreadsheets, etc., you have to have absolute bullet-proof compatibility. OpenOffice and StarOffice are very close, but not quite there yet.
