Samsung Top Maker of Notebook Computer Screens

Samsung Electronics is firing on all cylinders now. They're doing well selling mobile phones, TVs and now they've overtakenarchrival LG Electronics as the world's top maker of high-resolution computer monitors and of notebook computer displays, and Samsung is set to keep its lead.

Usingspeedy manufacturing and smart product bets, Samsung seems positioned to remain the world's No. 1 display maker for years to come. $11 billion worth of notebook screens are expected to be sold this year worldwide, according to industry research by the company DisplaySearch and Samsung will hold a majority of that huge figure. Meanwhile, Samsung will also become a leader in wide-screen, crystal clear TV production. These TVsthat now retail for $7,500 could fall to under $1,999 in three years.

So chances are that Samsung makes the screen for that monitor you're looking at right now, and chances will be good that as time moves on your TV and computer screens will have come from a Samsung manufacturing plant.

Who's that Guy In the Office -- And Why's He Walking out With the Laptop?

Laugh if you will, but do a search usingwww.google.com/news (Google's news search) and search for "stolen laptop" and you'll be amazed how many articles are published every single day about this. Laptops are simply easy to steal, of high value, and then easy to resell. A very popular tactic of late has been for criminals to simply go into a business office, sit down as if they work there and if the office has enough people it is generally the case that person is ignored or assumed to be a worker. Then, that person will just calmly pick up a nearby laptop and walk out of the office. Happens all the time. A recent spate in Kansas of this happening has lead to the arrest of some guy that stole about 10 laptops in a month. The worst thing is, generally employees rarely confront people that do such things as this. Just be aware, even if you think your laptop is safe at work it might not be. Keep it locked down, and if some weird dude is in the office that you don't recognize, might want to confront them and mention this to others!

NotebookReview.com Server gets Slaughtered by Traffic from SlashDot.org

Yesterday (5/5/2004) between 4:00 p.m. and midnight the NotebookReview.com server was basically down. We're sorry for this inconvenience.NotebookReview.com shares a server with its sister sitewww.BargainPDA.com and a very popular tech focused website that gets millions of hits a day, SlashDot (www.slashdot.org) featured a link directly to us from the front of their site and we crumbled under the deluge of web traffic. We're working to improve bandwidth in the future so this does not happen again!
