Motherboard makers confirm May launch for Turion X2 and Socket AM2

Recent information from unspecified motherboard manufacturers in Taiwan suggested that AMD would not be releasing its Turion 64 X2 processor until June. However, AMD confirmed a May launch date:

"AMD will launch the Turion 64 X2 mobile platform on May 17 and AM2-compatible processors on May 23, as opposed to rumors of a June 6 launch for the desktop segment and an unspecified June date for the mobile CPU, according to sources at the motherboard makers."

Mass production of DDR2 memory for AMD-based systems will begin one to two months later than originally estimated, however, according to sources at Taiwan DRAM makers.

Taiwan notebook peripheral makers expect improved demand in Q2

Chicony Electronics expects its consolidated revenues to grow about 10% sequentially in Q2 2006 due to better-than-anticipated demand for notebook peripherals, including keyboards, power supplies, web cameras, and integrated camera modules. Sunrex Technology expects to see on-quarter growth of over 5% in consolidated revenues for Q2 as well.

"The positive outlook for the second quarter, on the part of the two notebook-keyboard specialists, corresponds to a recent statement by Taiwan's notebook manufacturers, which estimated that notebook demand worldwide will gradually pick up in May and June, following sequential revenue drops for the sector in April."

Intel claims performance gain of 40% with new Core 2 Extreme

TGDaily is running a very interesting article on their new Core 2 architecture and why the PC will remain the enthusiast gamer's platform of choice.

In response to a question asked by TG Daily about whether or not PC gamers will have an advantage versus console gamers, Intel says (excerpts taken from article):

".... people who have a PC may have an advantage, because they get a lot more smooth experience and a faster response rate."

"You look at a first-person shooter game like Day of Defeat and you see the shadow of the guy coming around the corner, those types of realism effects, if you get a better-quality display and a better-quality engine, those things give you a bit of an advantage, because the other guy doesn't see that shadow as clearly on his background as people are coming around the corner." [p]"We're very happy with the PC model. I think a lot of people try to say PC gaming is dead, which is totally wrong. PC gaming continues to evolve...The openness of the PC allows a base of innovation from the Internet side and the software side, that just won't stop."[/p]

[p]Their opinion is a bit biased as TG states, but you can draw your own conclusions. Your such a suck-up Junor. xD!
We should take him out back to The Random Thread or SG's Thread later and beat him up.
Oh, and thanks for the news Chazman. =)

Cool VoIP phone and its a pretty sexy looking mouse to.

You gotta crazy fanbases. The kind who are probably going to start a letter campain to Apple if the 13.3" macbook doesn't come out next Friday.

All of those backpacks are obviously way to masculine for me. =P

I don't like backpacks, I prefer messenger bags, especially for laptops.

messenger bags are bad for backs....puts too much weight on one side of the body. though they are always more stylish =/

i want to get a laptop backpack, but it seems like they are all to masculine, just like metamorphical mentioned. i also hate how bag makers seem to think by adding pink to their very big and blocky bags will make it attractive for women....

Really these computer companies and computer products companies in general stinks at figuring out what women find attractive. According to them women will buy anything thats either colorful or pink. I.E. The Sony FJ, I mean seriously what guy would be caught dead with any color but black? All the rest of the colors are aimed at females. Then if you want to make a female bag it has to be pink, or looking like a purse.

The pink Targus backpack I assume is the one your talking about ejl? I agree that's a pretty ugly bag. I like the color pink. I myself and stuck with an ugly black targus.

that's one of them....it's just kinda annoying that they just keep the same general designs of their male oriented bags and just add the color pink to the color scheme and think that it would make women buy it. anything that looks nice is a messenger bag, but those things give me shoulder pain and lower back pain. i will just have to get something ugly b/c i am not the type of girl who is willing to be in pain to look good...unless i have to.

on another note, i really hope amd vp really does find a way to get amd into dells....

Ok... I need some explaining here...
The Turion X2 64 will be out May 17, right? and HP/Compaq has already announced a few notebooks which will be using this processor...
Now, the article says that the RAM for the AMD processor will not be available till about July/August... does that me that the notebooks from HP/Compaq will also be delayed?
    just confused.....

I think it means DDR2 ram for AMD machines won't be available for some months. Notebooks with the TurionX2 released before that, like the Dv5000z and V3000 will ship with the same DDR ram current Turion processors are available with.

It means that they won't be ramping up production for DDR2 until then. The memory won't be different between AMD and Intel, they'll use the same type.

The AMD Turion X2 will use DDR2 memory, up to DDR2-667 as of now.

40 percent performance increase on Core Duo 2? yea, that sounds like when they said socket 939 was the deffinitve socket.
