According to Fudzilla, AMD is planning to introduce an ATI mobile GPU based on the RV770 core sometime in Q3/Q4. The RV770 is the core used in the upcoming desktop ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, and features 800 shader processors. The mobile RV770 will most likely have lower clocks than its desktop counterpart. It is currently codenamed M98.

Dell shipping wrong graphics card in UK Vostro 1710s
    [IMG]

Several of our forum members from the UK have reported receiving their new Vostro 1710 notebooks with the wrong graphics card installed. Even though the website and their orders say the notebook has an Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GT, the notebooks are actually shipping with an 8600M-GS, which is a significant downgrade in power from the GT.

Today, Dell changed the Vostro 1710 dedicated graphics card options to the 8600M-GS only in the UK. This appears to be one big mix-up on Dell's part.

ATI's been rather impressive of late, with the HD 3000 series just released and HD 4000 not too long after now, and desktop 3000 putting up a pretty good showing. Much better than six months or a year ago for sure. Now if only AMD had some processors that made the combination worthwhile - unfortunately they've been underperforming ever since I joined NBR...

As to when downloads/availability starts, what can you expect? The Inspiron 1520 release was at some entirely random time, too. The only really consistent thing they could do is a 12 AM GMT release.

Glad to see some 8800GTX competitor. Hopefully AMD can keep up the good work, so us customers can benefit.

Good lord, 800 stream processors? I see rather than address the specific problems with per shader performance compared to nVidia, AMD/ATi is content to just keep throwing more shaders at the problem and hope it goes away.

Whatever, I hope they can finally start competing with nVidia again. It's kind of sad that here almost two years later the 8800GTX remains the fastest single-GPU solution.

i think Nvidia will just clock the hell out of the 8800m GTX core... with the 9800m GTX im failry sure it has alot of guts left in it as far as clock speeds are concerned... ATI cards are cant handle the heat as well.. thats there main issue imo. need higher shader clocks pronto

7,612,436 downloads total and 2.5 million coming from the USA. That's insane. I am waiting to download FF3 until it auto updates for me.

More ain`t necessarly better. and rumour has it that ATI`s sollutions will still be significantly weaker than NVIDIA`s top cards. Bad for gamers, indeed...

Wow, that Toshiba sounds great! Shame that it's not as fantastic as all that when you read the review. Still, it has me paying attention, and by the time I can justify getting something like it the latest model may have been perfected.

8800m GTX already clocks like a god. With a 0,5v increase the Core easily goes up to Core 700 Shaders 1700, Mem 980. Without a volt mod I run my 8800m GTX´s at Core 625, Shaders 1550, Mem 950 without any heat increase from the overclocking.

The R500 should be pretty cool, too bad it only comes in white.

FYI, it's actually light silver everywhere except for a black bezel around the display.

I have an R500. IMO, the biggest weakness of the R500 is its display which is more or less tolerable at best -- but when compared to the types of beautiful displays other manufacturers are putting out is lame. The nice way to think of it or the marketing speak is that "it comes with a built-in privacy screen on the display" ;) (another way to say it is "viewing angles are bad"). Build quality is nowhere close to the solidity of a Thinkpad -- but it's a tradeoff, the thing is light as a feather AND it doesn't give up any functionality with built in optical drive, lots of ports, etc.

So if you can tolerate a middling display and take care not to let it get beat up, you are rewarded with a laptop that is unbelievably light, fully featured, fast enough, and a great form factor with a good keyboard.

I think ATI done nice job with R7XX series .I read couple of ATI HD4850 Reviews & every reviewer said it's better than nVidia 9800GTX .Good thing is games perform better when enable AA.Price is low & performance is good ,so what else we need?
Hope same thing will happens to R7XX mobile chips .Competition always bring prices down & win to the consumer

Yeah It should be good , Also that guy said volt mod it 0.5v , Yeah dont do that unless your on heavy watercooling , Even then its risky , +.5v Is an extremly high amount for any gpu.

Thanks for clearing it up, light silver would be much better than white imo. White parts seem to turn yellowish after a while. :confused2:
