Apple ultraportable rumored for Macworld Expo

According to AppleInsider, there could be an ultraportable Apple laptop introduced at the Macworld Expo in January. It will probably have a 13-inch screen and no internal optical drive. With NAND flash storage instead of a traditional hard disk, it will be about 50 percent lighter than the current MacBook Pro, and also slimmer. Combined with an LED-backlit display, the machine will be considerably more power efficient. This is all still a rumor, but at least this one has an expliration date.

LOL, I guess since the majority of people use 14 to 15" laptops, a 13" to them is considered "ultraportable". That is so not an ultraportable. You are insulting the great name. : )

I agree. Although the reduction in weight and slimming down sounds promising. I'm hoping for Apple to come out with a 10"-12" ultraportable weighing 3 lbs or less. 13 inch is just not exciting. But it is still a rumor and one can only hope that it becomes a true ultraportable by the time it is introduced.

You forgot to mention it will be 2x as expensive as the Dell M1330... but Mac fanboys will still buy it.

I hate both Mac and Dell, and I would still buy the Mac. Dell is a bad example for prices. Dells are usually cheap, but usually very cheap quality as well. Mac is usually mostly quality, but its a bit more expensive then it should be.

What is up with announcing things so far in advance? My complete and utter lack of patience kills me up until the item is released, then I'm just disappointed when it actually comes out. Movies are especially bad for this.

sorry for the rant. I hope it has a wxga+ screen and not just wxga.

It's not just you; I'm seriously tempted by one. It sounds like a slick device, and the donation is a nice touch.

It is - with the given size one could use Linux. The only problem is, I'm a broke college student and I don't have the money. =[

I feel your pain there Amol. My new 17" Macbook Pro pretty much covers my electronic expenditures for the next year.

College students have a lot to complain about, even if they can afford stuff like that.

Really? I certainly couldn't have afforded a Macbook at uni but then I didn't want one! My Satellite Pro was more than fine for me. I'd be thinking of replacing it if I didn't have such affection for it!
