Great job Asus, though many like myself would pay a little more for a larger screen, thats my only issue with it, just a bit too small for me.

Now imagine if Apple had released this thing.

The idea for the touchscreen is wonderful.
I think this is just starting, it's probably a matter of time would start changing the bodywork of the laptop. And making more heavy mods on the laptop.

Indeed, they really could put in a larger screen. I mean, that screen bezel is HUGE!

Too bad it couldn't have launched at the $200 price they inititially announced and was hyped so I'm surprised its selling so well at twice the price ($400 for the 4gb model, most popular model)

Yes a bigger screen would definitely make it much more desirable. I fiddled around with it at a store a few times, and to me it just doesn't look or feel right with that toy screen.

Wow I think this is amazing, even with a 7 inch screen, for about 600 dollars total after all expenses, you can get a 7 inch touch screen Eee PC, but I am assuming warranty will be void at this point. They should honestly just sell it barebone or something and users can adjust them to their desire. The only components they should have would be the processor, a stock screen I suppose for those who don't want to play around with the screen component, but allow for the addition of bluetooth, more and larger memory. I have seen user who have already modded theirs with more memory and Windows XP and so forth, but they should sell a version of it for cheaper with less components so it could become more customizable.

Now, if they could find a way to strap an 8800 GTX into an EEE, you may just have the single most popular laptop... EVER. You could make a laptop name out of nothing but acronyms. ASUS EEE GTX SLI PC 4GB OC XP Edition

The thing is, lots of people don't like buying used laptops, especially older used laptops (not saying they're right, just stating facts). Lots of people also don't like buying expensive items off eBay and the other places you're likely to find used laptops at reasonable prices. They feel much more comfortable ordering a EEE off Amazon or Newegg or wherever, and will be even more comfortable picking one up at BB.

The EEE is brilliantly placed- it does word processing, web browsing, and other simple office and desktop stuff, it's cheap, and it's small and light. Now we all know it isn't as cheap as it was supposed to be, and that it probably isn't even the world's greatest deal with it's specs at that price. But for someone looking for a small, light, notebook that lets them take notes or write emails and surf the web, without having to drop $1k or more, or carry around a 14" or 15" notebook it's perfect.

I would agree with you if only the screen was bigger - ideally around the 10" mark. I am used to ultraportables, but the screen is just too small. IMO, apart from ruining an otherwise very nice and clean looking subnotebook, it also makes it uncomfortable to use for office apps and the Internet. I tried making a presentation on it, and needless to say, it was not a comfortable experience. But of course everyone has different preferences and pain limits.

Hmm, buy a very easy to customize laptop with a 2 year global Asus warranty, for new at about 300-400$ depending on where you live, OR buy a used item off eBay for nearly just as much after all expenses, and have it break after 2-3 months and find yourself spending more to replace the broken parts. It's not an EEExactly smart investment is it?

Sure it is "safer" to buy a new EEE , and my suggestion is not suited for bulk or novice buyers .

However the spec bump is too big to ignore and even if it will break after a short while you'd be able to buy another one for even less .

... btw when the time of the old unit will come , you'd be able to buy your EEE for 200$ .
