Apple behind Microsoft in security responsiveness
According to security researchers from IBM, Apple is trailing far behind Microsoft in security patch responsiveness. They found that Apple is getting worse at dealing with security problems while Microsoft is improving. Gunter Ollman of the IBM X-Force security division stated "While I think that there are quite a few reasons why this is probably so, I'd be inclined to say that Apple's biggest problem appears to be that they treat every new vulnerability as a potential PR disaster rather than an opportunity to visibly reinforce their work in securing their customers."

It's probably gonna be months before notebook with the ATI graphics will be out. I wonder how they will be priced.
-
Any indication of what the "X2" signifies on the Radeon gpus? "Dual-Core" popped into my head when I first saw it, as it is current AMD nomenclature....
-
2 GPUs in one. nVidia uses the same nomenclature.
-
Dual-Core GPUs....
Sounds interesting. I wonder how they'll be priced, and how they'll perform? -
Not dual-core, literally 2 GPUs stuck together with a few modifications. Just like SLI or Crossfire that's been going on forever now.
-
hmmm... looks like AMD is trying to compete with Nvidia! awesome! let the prices fall!
-
EDIT: Oops, I missed your next post. -
That's pretty sweet about the EEE PCs, and Apple's security problems.
-
Gar, I thought that this was going to be a launch date for their new line, well, atleast they are moving forward with XP
-
Let the prices hit the floor.
Let the prices hit the floor.
Let the prices hit the floor.
Let the prices hit the ...
FLOOOOORRRRRR! -
I guess I just misinterpreted the "2 GPUs in one." -

Ha! Finally Apple is humbled in their neverending effort to seem indestructable in terms of security. Personally I don't care that it WAS Microsoft, but just having SOMEONE do it makes me feel glad. I'm just so sick and tired of the Mac lovers who always tote the "but Apple is SOO much better than anyone else in security" sort of mentality.

-
Way to Go Ati!nice job!
and now I want to see 9800 gx2 in!and btw,in descktop world prices didn't hit the floor becouse of 3780 x2... -
Get those prices down!

New ATi cards going to be 17" notebooks no? eww...If not...yay!!!

Dell and Clevo. -
It'll be hot as well( wait, hot is an understatement, it'll be steaming).
-
It'll also make a nice blow dryer. Same great drying ability, less watts.
-
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe it'll have some new cooling system, say maybe it'll be encased in a refrigerator! -
that IBM apple statement was probably set off by the recent pwn to own contest.
-
^^Probably...........

Very sad, but probably true.....

Don't be racist. Your laptops are already made in China. So is your clothing, and most of your appliances. I'd guess that >50% of the stuff in your house is made in China.
Edit: Boo, censorship. -
yeah, it's odd how we changed mentality. for a very long time Chinese goods were the best you could get, Chinese silk and steel was better than anything the West could produce. then came Nationalism and of course anything "we" could produce would be better than "them".
this is some interesting news, nice to see the cost of XP didn't drive the price of the EEE up, too. -

About the Chinese batteries:
I guess they are not that bad now, they really tried improvements and I appreciate their efforts. but their products are still no match for Korean and Japanese innovated/designed, High Quality electronics and semiconductors. For those of you saying "ooh, your laptop is made in china" Guess what? Yes, they are made in China, but it is for the most part innovated and designed in first world high-tech leader countries like US, Japan, South Korea, Germany, etc... and only really made in China for sake of drastically reducing the manufacturing costs ($150 a month worker's salary compared to like, $2000 in US, plastic and metal are cheaper, electricity are cheaper) and than sold to us. I am not against Chinese at all, I think they are really great and awesome in general, but don't give them too much credit... yet =D -
The article's very short, and doesn't go into details, but I read it as they're looking to manufacture batteries in China now. The designs and specifications will obviously have to stay the same if they're for the same laptops, so I just took it as - current designs, made in china.
-
Reminds me of C&C Generals...
"We build for China!"
But more apropos:
"No system is safe!"
-
I guess it depends on how exacting to the oem specs the batteries will be. For example, the replacement lithium ion batteries for my DeWalt cordless drill were cheaper than the factory originals, but also lasted half the time....
-
It's about time ATI got back in the game. I knew that AMD merger would slow it down.
-
That wasn't a merger it was a buy out by AMD.
-
"Making money off the Internet!"
Racist or not, I had the same thought as Crimsonman. Chinese quality controls can be a tad spotty. -
-
not to bash China but don't forget about the thousands of dogs and cats that died of kidney failure last year from poisoned food. Then there was lead paint in children's toys...etc.
In the end HP better make sure they spec the batteries right and then get what they pay for because if there are problems it won't be China paying for it. -
Meh, I got no problems with my Chinese battery. Better than the exploding Japanese ones.
-
In the words of Homer Simpson... "DOH!" -
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;

Could be both. I've seen GPUs get over 100 Celsius, so yes, steaming in the literal sense is very possible.
