Note to Males -- don't put that Laptop in your Lap

Back in the eighties the fashion of tight jeans lead to warnings from researchers that men wearing such tight pants would increase the temperature of the scrotum which has a negative effect on sperm production. Well, these days tight jeans are not in vogue for males, but having a laptop is becoming more and more popular and researchers now warn us of what we already knew, having that laptop on your knees will also increase the temperature down there. According to researchers, "Just sitting with the thighs together, a posture needed to balance a laptop, caused scrotal temperatures to rise by 2.1C. "

And then turn the laptop on, which as we know generates heat, and the result is:

"When the men used a laptop in this position the average temperatures increased by 2.6C on the left of the scrotum and 2.8C on the right."

And by increasing the temperature between your legs by 2.6, well, that's some extra warmth that the male reproductivesystem just doesn't like. If you're looking for a good form of birth control, extra use of a laptop could be it, but if you're worried about fertility - might want to put that laptop on the desk!

Acer to Benefit from IBM and Lenovo Deal?

IBM and Lenovo recently merged to form the world's third largest PC vendor after Dell and HP. But Acer, the world's fifth ranked PC maker,might be the lucky one that gets to move up the ladder. If the IBM-Lenovo deal causes distributors to shift from IBM products, Acer would likely be the beneficiary of this shift more so than HP and Dell. Acer has also stated that it's goal is to move to #3 in the world for shipment of PCs by 2007.

In addition, Acer has set the goal of shipping 5 million notebooks next year and 7 million in 2006. Acer will have shipped 3.2 - 3.5 million notebooks in 2004 by the time year-end hits it is predicted. Those are some hefty growth goals, but Acer has demonstrated steadygrowth and if they can capture more of the U.S. market then this is a reasonable goal for the company.
