Lenovo introduces ThinkPad Reserve Edition

Lenovo unveiled the ThinkPad Reserve edition. It is an X61 with a leather case and Executive Support services; there are no hardware updates. The guaranteed on-site support in major cities will show up within four hours and even tune-up your computer to make sure everything stays running as it should. The ThinkPad Reserve Edition has a Core 2 Duo L7500 LV processor, WWAN, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, and a 12.1-inch display. An external multi-burner and a USB 8)GB hard drive are included, but it is still hard to justify the $5,000 pricetag. The laptop is only sold "by invitation only".

Apple Safari browser reaches 1 million downloads

Since Apple released the first beta of its Safari Internet browser, it already has over one million downloads. Up to 18 flaws were detected with the browser right after it was released for Windows. The v3.01 beta is now available for download from Apple's website. While Safari does not offer a whole lot in terms of features over other browsers available on Windows, it is regarded as the world's fastest Internet browser.

Blockbuster chooses Blu-ray; huge blow to HD DVD supporters

Rental giant Blockbuster has chosen to use the Blu-ray disc format over HD DVD mainly because of overwhelming customer preference for titles available on the format in the test consumer markets. Apparently content was the deciding factor for consumers, not price. The move is viewed as a huge blow to the HD DVD crowd, including Toshiba and Universal.

ThinkPad R61 run over by motorcycle

Lenovo decided to show off the durability of their newest ThinkPad R61 notebook in Taiwan by hiring a guy to run it over with a motorcycle, bounce up and down on it and then prove that the thing'll still bootup. Observe:

Wow, that Lenovo durability reminds me of the console durability test. The GBC came in first, it booted up even after it was SAWED IN HALF! The Xbox was second, the PS2 3rd.

Sorry that it is in Spanish and it is not subbed. It is still very interesting.

Tires were probably deflated to spread out the pressure. I wish he did some bunny hops too. :)

I'm sure Block Buster got a nice payment to support blueray rather than HD-DVD.

The rear tire, at least, is clearly deflated.

Others like Dell have limited their "testing" to just a person standing on the notebook. There might be some merit in Lenovo`s testing since the bike and the rider weigh close to 1,5 persons :p

Until DVDs cease production, we aren't going to really see any major shifts toward next-gen hi def discs. I know I certainly won't budge - I am quite content with 700MB CDs and 4.7GB SS DVDs...

...there just isn't a great incentive to move over

Regarded as the world's fastest internet browser by whom? Apple may claim this but they also claimed their G5 was the worlds fastest computer.

Not to sound nit-picky, but the Thinkpad Reserve Edition is an X61s with the slightly more luminant and lighter UltraLight panel and thus no plain X61 model. Note that there is always some difference between the X61s and X61 X-series models.

By the story I linked. It's not my opinion.
