According to a German newspaper website, at the Intel Developers Conference in Beijing, China a couple of things were being touted by Intel for upcoming notebook processor platforms:
- Intel is touting Intel Dynamic Acceleration (IDA) in which some Merom dual core CPUs will have the ability to overclock themselves when running in single thread applications. Meaning, when the second CPU core is not being used by the application, the primary core can increase its frequency and overclock while the second core underclocks and gives up power necessary for the first core to process instructions faster. Because of the fact the second core downclocks, the CPU will not overheat or necessarily use more power.
- Wimax will be coming out as part of the Intel Montevina platform in early 2008, the codename for this is Echo Peak

Asustek to start manufacturing Intel Classmate PC, produce new Dell notebooks
According to site DigiTimes.com Asustek will be making some new Dell notebooks that will hit the market in June. They will be producing 120,000 of these notebooks initially with more upside potential during the back to school and holiday season. No word on what kind of notebooks these are, other than the fact we can assume they're probably new Intel Santa Rosa based notebooks.
DigiTimes in the same article reports that Asustek will be rebranding the Classmate PC, an Intel competitor to the OLPC laptop for 3rd world countries, and selling them to consumers in regular old modernized countries.
The Classmate PC will have a 7-inch LCD panel and solid state disk (flash memory based) with storage space ranging from 1GB to 40GB. Prices will go from $199 - $549 based on hard drive size. There's no word on what brand Asustek would sell these under, but the article says they'd be available in the second half of 2007.
Apple Mac OS X Leopard delayed due to Apple iPhone
Apple demonstrates that you can't burn the candle at both ends without some kind of penalty. Apparently the developer resources they had to shift to focusing on the iPhone and making sure that device makes it to market in June has caused delays for the release of the next Mac OS X update -- Leopard. Leopard had been expected to ship in the June timeframe. To see some of updates Leopard will provide over the current Tiger version of the OS X platform see the Apple website here.
ThinkSecret.com has a gallery of leaked image screenshots for the upcoming Leopard OS X.
Microsoft confirms Vista activation hack works
Microsoft has now confirmed a Vista activation hack that was reported on about a month ago. The activation hack involves faking an OEM BIOS communication between Vista and the computer, and takes advantage of Vista's pre-programmed action to validate if it detects a certain OEM flag from within the BIOS of any computer. If that flag exists, Vista will apparently never communicate with Microsoft's servers to determine the installation's legitimacy and will automatically validate the copy.

IDA seems like big news. If this is really coming to Santa Rosa in the coming months, I am VERY surprised it wasn't touted earlier.

IDA sounds exciting!
why do i have sneaking suspicion that apple just making an excuses about delaying leopard, my suspicion tells me that apple just have trouble developing leopard -just like microsoft did with vista- but they can't admit that ever since they are endlessly taunting MS for delaying vista, and they are just can't admit to the fact that stuff happens. -
