Intel "Yonah"Dual-core Processor Plans for 2006
Although Intel just released its new Sonoma Centrino platform of processors, there is of course continued development on the next generation of notebook processorsthat will arrive in early 2006. In fact, Intel has alreadytold its motherboard customers and OEM partners that at the start of 2006 they will be releasing six processors that use a dual core and 65 nanometer manufacturing process (smaller than the current 90nm process used). These dual-core notebook chips are being dubbed "Yonah".e six versions of its 65 nanometre Yonah dual core notebook chip in the first quarter of next year.
So what's the big deal with dual-core processors you might ask? Well, the core of a processor is responsible for performing math calculations -- which is a rather important part of the job of a processor. In the never-ending push to boost speed it will be dual core processors, and then quad-core processors that will continue to thrust us into the future of theneed for speed.Intel hasn't decided yet what clock speeds these new Yonah chips will run at, but they will have a 667MHz front side buses andcontain 2MB of level two cache, Enhanced Speedstep and support the XD bit to reduce the risk of viral infection.
