I think i might wait for the np5790 w/8700 for sure in that case. I dont think it will kill me. But it sounds awesome.

I just got my X205-S9359 and I'm extremely underwhelmed. The frame rate of the Company of Heroes test in DX10 was 7.1fps at 1024x768 and the eye candy left much to be desired. The Call of Juarez Benchmark was about 17fps and I couldn't run Lost Planet. I think the machine is overall slower than my old bloated XP machine and I am learning to really dislike Vista. Hope that things improve with time or I'm going to be one seriously disgruntled consumer.

Sorry if this was already mentioned... but was the 8700M GT rendering in DX10 or DX9? If it was rendering in DX9, I don't see this as a huge surprise... but if it was DX10, then this is some pretty good news seeing how even HD 2900XT/8800 GTX struggle with current "DX10" games (admittedly, most are bad ports and all are just DX9 games with patches thrown on).

As far as I'm aware, those games are very poor tests of the graphics power of that machine. They're all terribly coded and very, very poorly optimized.
I'd say if you really want to try it out, use a game like F.E.A.R. or Call of Duty 2. Albeit they're DX9 games, the 8700M GT still tears through them more than adequately. -

Wow - That's terribly bad news... I was seriously considering this machine - but statements like this make me consider the Sager 5790 even more....
VIsta is a bane upon all our lives.... Its being shoved down our throat just for the sake of being something new and improved. -

It's too early to judge the X205's graphics performance in DirectX 10. The Lost Planet demo as noted is horribly coded. I don't know how the developers can release something like that. It is abysmal. So, there is no point to judging the machine off of that game. I am not sure about the other games but if they are ports then don't bother.

The 8700M-GT has *a lot* of shading power so with the next-gen PC games coming up, its performance may actually get better on the whole, especially compared to the older Go 7 series GPUs. That is merely an estimate so we'll have to wait and see what happens . . .

haha.. im eagerly awaiting Chad'z review as well
but all this shading stuff is good for RTS games, such as C&C 3 which i saw somewhere was notably better, which means it may also look quite sexxi in Starcraft 2!
ive said it before and i'll say it again, 7950 will last for at least the next two years, but i didn't wanna say before until someone did earlier, if you notice alot of these 7950 backers who seem to be saying the 8700 is FAR behind the 7950, WHich it is NOT at all, happen to have the 7950 themselves :/, rationilizing maybe?
wait for the SLi 8700s in the D900 within the next two weeks... and start drooling wen DX10 and shade reliant games pop out... -
-
no you're right, the 7950 is better than the 8700, but its not by a MAJOR margin, and 7950 cant do DX10 at all... :/ i think the DX10 is worth it as games will get better optimized for these cards anyway.

Wow that's a darn small receiver!
