Vista Service Pack 1 to come "sometime this year"Microsoft this week stated that Service Pack 1 Beta for Windows Vista would come out "sometime this year." It was originally thought that the Beta would come out this week. The official statement from Microsoft says:
“There will be a Windows Vista service pack and our current expectation is that a beta will be made available sometime this year. Service packs are part of the traditional software lifecycle — they’re something we do for all Microsoft products as part of our commitment to continuous improvement, and providing early test builds is a standard practice that helps us incorporate customer feedback and improve the overall quality of the product."
The statement was published on Josh's Windows Weblog, which also stated that the early SP1 build would only be available to a select group of testers.

I wonder if "7" will deliver on the features which <strike>XP Service Pack 3</strike> Vista promised?
And that R500 is slick -
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Hm...7 eh? I kind of liked the name Vienna but 7 certainly is an intriguing name.
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
Sounds like a play for Microsoft's lucky number.
-
Not necessarily. You seen the film Se7en?
-
I wonder how long it took them to pick the name "7"...maybe that is what is delaying SP1.

ROFL! I certainly hope that they aren't alluding to the film Seven. :S If they were who would be the deranged killer?? lol Also, that would be really sad if the name for the new OS held up SP1 because that would mean that the programmers and testers would be the ones who were choosing the name. haha
-
they didn't even say that sp1 would only come out this year, only that sp1 beta would
-
How does the ATI HD 2400 compare to the nVidia GeForce 8700 Go?
-
I'll take the over on the 3 year release time table. If only Vegas took action on such things
-
Vista SP1 delayed... this is my surprised face.
-
-
LOL, codenamed "7"....I know they didn't mean "007" at all
-
Weird name.."7"
I'd prefer the name Vienna instead of "7".
Sounds kinda weird to call the new OS, Windows 7.
At least make it like, 7.0 instead of just 7.
The Asus A8Sr sure looks nice. I wonder how the ATI HD 2400 compares with the Geforce Go 8400m GS. -

the A8Sr is a disappointment.
that's worse than the 7700 in the A8Js -
But it isn't supposed to be replacing the A8Js. Its supposed to be replacing the A8Jr, and with a more powerful graphics card, I think its doing a good job of it.
The A8Js and A8Jp will be replaced by the F8Sv and F8Sa, with the 8600GT and HD2600 (possibly XT) respectively. -
Maybe, maybe not. ASUS already botched one thing, there was word of a V1S with 8600M GT in it coming out in August now other sources say it'll carry an 8400M GT. To be honest, I'm typing this after a one and a half hour session of F.E.A.R., and the right side of my keyboard's hot to touch. Don't know how they're going to stick this 8600M GT card into a 14.1" and get away with not melting the thing.

Hmm Microsoft has a head start...I wonder if Apple is working on OS 11 or something
-
Apple is unlikely to ever (not in the near future) rewrite from scratch.
they have darwin, and it's already great. -
