i looked at the ati site... it can output display back ontop your laptop screen... something the asus XG station couldnt...

plus it doesnt need external power... so you can take ur laptop + the box on the go... but dont expect your nb battery to power this for long...

If Intel did offer unfair rebates (lots of companies including AMD use rebates to help sales they just don't include clauses that say 'don't buy competitors product') I don't support them in that, however AMD has had plenty of chances and it hasn't lived up to the hype, even if Intel are found guilty they will be stuck with a similar market share until they can start beating or matching Intels processors like they used to. And maybe they should put more money into R&D and take it out of trying to get lawsuits started against competitors since AMD have been going on a bit about this crying foul at every turn, and it's only recently a few countries have investigated Intel.

When AMD bring out a good processor series again, that beats Intel price/performance I can see it is acceptable for them to ask qustions if their market share doesn't increase. However at the moment with Intel beating them at almost every tier for price/performance, it's not surprising their market share is hanging around the same figures or dropping a little.

Not necessarily. AMD's dual core's are quite competitive on the lower end of the market where OEMs haunt. With the release of their latest integrated chipsets we ought to be seeing some growth in sales.

And remember A64? crushed pentium 4 in performance yet pentium 4 sold much better...hmm...

Perhaps because PATA uses less power and is fast enough for this hardware.

that's what I meant when I said they really need to start releasing good processors again. I can see it as acceptable when they ask questions when their processors use to be the best enthusiast parts and they had no market share increase, however now? They're being crushed by Intel in most tiers and being beaten marginally in others, so it doesn't really stack up now, though AMD has probably been pushing for investigations for years.

Apart from that, yes AMD dual cores are a little more competitive, but not by much, and anyone who wants to get more then office work done would be better off with a cheap C2D.

I wouldn't quite put off AMD just yet.
Reading on the matter will reveal some more AMD plans in the future.
