<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-09-18T23:43:17 -->Limited edition design laptops are becoming all the rage these days. Trust Sony to raise the bar and actually give an artist their laptop as a canvas to do work on.
Sony today unveiled the VAIO Graphic Splash Maya Hayuk Edition notebook. The VAIO FZ190 has been given a new paint job in the form of two different art designs by New York City based artist Maya Hayuk. The two designs are called "Grow" and "Never Stop", you can see these rather funky designs below:

The FZ190E/1 is a high spec configuration with the following components:
- Processor: Intel T7300 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo processor
- Screen: 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) XBRITE display
- Memory: 2GB RAM
- Optical Drive: Blu-Ray
- Storage: 200GB Hard Drive
- Ports and Slots: Three USB 2.0, one FireWire 400 port, one ExpressCard 34, one S-Video, one VGA, one MemoryStick Pro reader, one SD card reader, headphone / line-out, microphone-in, modem, 10/100 Ethernet, HDMI

These designer laptops will retail for around $2,500. If you're looking for functional art work, this could be your cup of tea. If you're a male you might want to make sure you're comfortable with your feminine side before purchasing. It's not exactly a glowing Alien head on the lid there, assumptions could be made.

Nice touch to match the desktop to the paint job, but i'm glad i got a plain one. Definably not my kind of art, brrrrr......
-
totally not my kind of art either ... too abstract .. most ppl dont' understand this art alot, y dont' they put some cool vector wallpapers that every1 feels easier to understand and it's just cool. rather than this abstract. not cool to me.
-
I think it looks pretty nice. But just the lid? They better paint the whole thing.
-
The more I look at it, the more I like it. Very aesthetically pleasing if it's not examined too hard. That said, a little voice in my head keeps thinking that these notebooks have been defaced. If I left my notebook for a minute, came back and found these patterns on it I'd be mortified

I'm sorry, you fail at trying to make an interesting design on the notebook. Go for something swoopy and stuff like HP, and definitely thats awesome looking. This, however....Too abstract, to much flowery/naturey junk. Its a notebook, technology....theres nothing natural about it!
-
That is pretty sick but the price is a little steep for me, not that it's not justified, it probably takes a lot of work to come up with some thing like that.

I like the HP design a lot better. -
They should make it like those artsy and matching baseball caps, jacket, and shoes. Having designs like that without something else to match it with makes it out of place.
If you got some funky designs, you should make it funky everywhere! Not just on the lid. -
^ Good point, and I agree that it won't be easy to match that lid with, well, more "ordinary" stuffs. I wouldn't mind having that wallpaper though.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Interesting to say the least... but I feel like I wouldn't want my laptop to look like something from a Museum of Modern Art. Others' opinions may differ...
-
Terrible... The idea is nice but it is just the kind of design you get fed up with after one day... totally disturbing...
-
the problem i have with this is that when you open your laptop up, itll just look like a normal laptop, its only when its lid is closed that there is style. now if they had changed the look of the laptop and incuded the design into the inside, around the screen and keyboard (maybe the design on the outside of the screen matching and continuing onto the design inside the screen on the wallpaper) or something. it really just looks like half a job done. the designs are ok, but how is this different than sticking a cover onto the back of the lid?

Creative, but not really attractive for me . . .
Looks a bit too . . . hard to phrase this . . . like too overdone . . . -_-a -

That's pretty cool. Would of been cooler if they'd of painted the whole thing, particularly if they are intending to sell it for that much. ;
-
Looks pretty good. There is apparently two designs meant for the two sexes - Growing for females and Never Stop for males although I can see it's possible for either to get either.
There's nothing wrong with Never Stop - gender-specificity-wise or aesthetics-wise. Obviously art cannot satisfy everybody's tastes and it shouldn't have to - just your own. -
-
eh, I kind of like the look of the "never stop" one. I also CAN'T see how that one looks feminine -.-
-
Very nice but I agree with the others that they should've done something with the rest of the notebook, not just the lid and the wallpaper.
Wouldn't just buying a skin be cheaper anyway? -
Emm. RICERBook?

Looks like some kid went crazy with a bunch of stickers. Looks like they're trying too hard...those hp designs though, those look very nice.
-
im quite into abstract art
so i kinda lyk it
mind it in a guy way LOL
but yea id muj prefer if if they did some cool ones too if ykno wot i mean -
I don't think the paint job justifies the price of this laptop. The only selling point is the blue-ray drive. It would be worth it if sony comes up with some technology where you could customize the look of your notebook's lid the same way you select your desktop wallpaper.
-
the wallpaper looks cool. the lid is a bit tacked on. the abstract artwork looks kinda good... but i somewhat prefer the ordinary one. looks more stylish and profesional.
-
I also like the wallpaper but the lid is ehhh, okay?
-
Does anyone have the wallpapers associated with these two laptops? I would like to host them on my website's vaio wallpapers page.
