Damn... I was really hoping the Z-series was going to drop the discrete GPU. Even worse is that the card is Nvidia.

I'm glad the z series did not drop the discrete GPU. Since I missed buying an LG P310, I have been waiting for the new Sony's as I thought they had the best chance of producing a 13" notebook with specs equal to or better than the P310. The Z fits that bill perfectly.

Wonder if anyone else will have a 13" or smaller unit with comparable specs?

Now with built-in IGPs, bring on the dedicated solutions! Even if the POS Nvidia dies you're still good to go with the IGP, really got nothing to lose anymore. Thanks Intel! Now I can have my cake and eat it too. :p

The Z is a beast... I really hope HP has something comparable/better.

I think I remember seeing in the Sony forum the S getting a discrete gpu as an option.

You also forgot to mention that the CW is getting refreshed with nvidia GT330m(not sure as a option or standard) and the intel i3 cpu.

    SWEET!

The Z has always been good but man that is a serious combo! SONY why havent i gotten a Gaming vaio yet? (Laugh all you want but i want one)

I think they have what it takes to make one i dont see whats holding them back. That new F series looks superb though. Time to update i guess, i love my FW.

They may add better config options. So far we have only seen what may be the specs of one laptop.

For example the FW was released with a ATI 3470 and a ATI 3650. Also, you could get one with a 4570 and a 4650.
It seems a little of to me that may be four lines will all have the same graphics card. Especially so the Z and the high end FW.

I think there might be an option to have a slightly better graphics card for the F1 but we need to wait and see.

I think the specs of the Z look fantastic. It is a shame for me it is a 13.1 and not a 13.3. With my current setup a 13.1 laptop is a bit too small for me.

It's switchable so you have the best of both worlds.

Well darn. The F series might not be bad if it's got an LED backlit screen. Just wish Sony would let Nvidia support their notebooks :(

Uh...those both sound like good things

I'm not sure I like the F-series update. Sure, a quad core update makes sense, but 6 GB of RAM is going to be too expensive unless it's got 3 RAM slots. And an ATI 5xxx graphics update would seem a better choice given that it would give DX11 support and likely be as good or better than whatever the 330M from nVIDIA is. If I were the betting type, I'd bet it's just some rebranded 2xx mobile GPU.

freedom16, the only one that mentions SSDs has a dual-core. Though I'm sure SSDs will be an option on the quads if you've got the dough.

they are not even ashamed to say that they will charge the same in euro as in usd... what a rip off

    1699 usd is about 1180 €, plus 19% tax ~ 1400 € ....

I don't think Sony is to blame. Most laptop brands are cheaper in the US. Probably something to do with other taxes besides VAT.
