I'd rather put the $100 difference toward a newer netbook in a year or two. At this level of performance obsolescence is closer than ever. By all reports, the Acer Aspire One is a beautiful machine as well.

I don't like the Aspire One because of the gap between the screen and the base. Again, personal opinions, that's why there are various netbooks on the market right now; there's something for everyone.

also the s10 adds bluetooth and an Express Card slot. which are both very welcome features.
i wonder what the 6 cell battery will look like. but overall, it's probably the best looking netbook out there. and i'll order once a review is done. i just want to know what they will say about small shift key on the right side. -
As far as I know, the Acer Aspire One's style and build quality are not on par with S10.
Here is a user's review of Aspire One in a taiwanese website
http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=5983
From the pictures, Aspire One looks rather cheap. -
From what we've seen so far the S10 is more on par with the MSI Wind and EEEPC1000.
MSI and Asus' both have bluetood. The Asus has wireless N though. But the S10 has the express card. I've never used an express card, but it could be useful on a netbook if you wanted internet access everywhere.
I wonder when Dell is going to show more of their netbook. -
Here's a short hands on video. Hope this was not posted already.

It looks really nice to me. I was thinking to buy an eeepc 1000H this week but now I'm not sure! -
On the contrary, I've read some reviews that say its quite well built. I got to try it for a few minutes at my Circuit City and was impressed, especially over its keyboard. The location of the touchpad buttons on the side like the HP 2133 is unusual but I got used to it quickly. I think it is a very good netbook.
The model had 512mb, 8gb SSD, Linux config in Blue which retails for $380.
Interesting that the $400 model has a 120gb 5400rpm HDD, XP Home and 1gb of ram. $20 extra gets you far far more.
Thats a great price for a netbook, the main drawback being both SKUs have a 3 cell battery, but I can't complain for the price!
Microcenter.com has both in stock.

Can you believe it hasn't even been a year since the Asus Eee 701 first came out? Going to go grab me a netbook while these companies duke it out for my $400. Gotta love capitalism and technology.

I am on the look for a new ultra portable notebook and am definitely considering this and the Dell E Slim.
Rightnow, Ideapad wins for having a larger hard drive -
Got this from Engadget...
http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/...Frame=N&application_id=361101&fcc_id='HFS-FL'
Does that mean it's going to come out soon? -
No, not really. Just sit tight and wait for late September/October as first described.
And based on the FCC images, it appears that the 6 cell elevates the computer slightly (like the MSI Wind) instead of poking out the back. -
the net book available now at lenovo site for 429 with code for %15 off
include new video chipsset as well. -

Go nuts -
Coupon code for ideapad s10 from lenovo's website: USPIDEAPAD15
Price after coupon code: $393.83 after tax and shipping (free ups ground)
I'm about to take the plunge on this little guy here. Over the past few weeks my interest jumped from the 2133 (too underpowered) to the wind (trackpad/availability too limited) and finally to this. The price is undeniably a steal for the specs. Drop your own 2gb stick in there (assuming 2g is max) and this little machine should fly.
I'm going to give it one more day before i buy this one. Unless HP comes out tomorrow with a mininote form factor using a beefed up graphics chipset and atom/via nano (isaiah) I'm sold on the black lenovo s10.
My only reservations is the keyboard and the lack of a 6cell battery as of yet. I keep telling myself that it's lenovo which have a top notch history for having the best keyboards. But 85%? how is that compared to the wind/1000h? -
Doesn't anyone find the netbook advertised with an X4500 IGP a bit strange? There is quite a discussion at engadgets about this; someone even called Lenovo and was told the website is correct. If the S10 really does have the X4500, it's going to be quite capable over other netbooks.
-
Why does Lenovo Canada not sell any IdeaPad Notebooks? This sucks!
-
Heh.. ya... that x4500 is a typo. It's really just a 950. It just wouldn't be Lenovo without any launch typos...
-
From Engadget:
Hey friend, ready for a full Lenovo IdeaPad S10 review? Sorry, this ain't it, but Laptop's initial hands-on with this "sweet 10-incher" might be enough to help with any imminent purchasing decisions requiring $429 in cash. What if we sweetened the deal and told you that Lenovo's netbook also features that very same un-netbooky X4500 integrated graphics found in Intel's Centrino 2 chipset -- no lame GMA950 here, pal. And as oddball as it sounds, one reader discovered that the red-colored S10 also features an external CD-RW/DVD-ROM for the same price as the white S10 (but $10 more than the black model). Check the full hands-on text (laced with adjectives like "spacious," "lovely," and "stylish") and video (where it's dubbed a Wind and Eee PC killer) just beyond the read link and just for you buddy.

The second link is def worth a look!!! -
I'm going to wait until someone takes a screenshot of the S10's Device Manager or DXDiag to determine what IGP it really has. It has to be the GMA950 though.
-
It's a GMA950, don't even bother getting your hopes up. Intel only has one chipset for the Atom right now and it uses the GMA950.
-
It already has been changed on the lenovo-site, but there is still a mistake at the screen.
Look here for more accurate specs:
Lenovo HK
And here a screenshot of the device-manager:

It is going to "Matte" or "Glossy" screen? i remembering reading "matte screen" somewhere... can anyone confirm this?

10.2 WSVGA AntiGlare TFT with integrated camera 1024x600 -
Yeah, just in case folks don't believe the 'corrected' Lenovo site details, it isn't the x4500. I jumped on it thinking it was (plus the 15% off) but Lenovo sent me an email saying it was a site error offering me to cancel the order. Suckers! I did
Ahh my trusty (and now crusty) Eee 700. -
Not bad
...but having to wait til October...I'm still waiting on the Dell Mini I...but that could take til October also...
