    • 17" WXGA+ BrightView, WSXGA+ BrightView and WXGA+ Ultra BrightView opt.

Awesome specs for the dv5000t. The Go7400 is really sweet.

Man, HP continues to do a nice job offering both the latest in AMD and Intel chips across all of its product lines, kudos to them. These are more expensive than the "z" AMD equivalents, but for those that want Core Duo the option is there now. I like the fact they're offering a dedicated graphics card, although not exactly one that's going to get great gaming performance. The Dell 17" e1705 offers the Go 7800, but the e1505 has no dedicated graphic offering yet so HP has them beat there.

Nice looking offerings though, good price. Thanks for the post Chaz.

I must say, these notebooks are impressive! Compare the specs to a Sony FE - much better deal with HP. I've always liked the design of the dv5000 series.

    Thumbs up to HP :hp:

What I'm wondering is, when or if HP will use this with their Turion "Z" versions. If they don't, I think they clearly prefer Intel to AMD. But then again, HP is one of the very few manufacturers that even use AMD, so I guess I should be happy with that...

What's the deal with the low-res screens man? I still don't get how, even as LCD technology advances, we're still stuck with, for the most part, XGA and WXGA screens... terrible

SXGA+, WSXGA+, and WUXGA for the win, ****it. At least offer it as an option...

Always so disappointed to see these cool looking laptops with awesome specs and then these totally low-res screens :(

At least the DV8000z and DV8000t have the option of WSXGA+ for $50 more.

FINALLY! The dv5000/dv8000 get a decent GPU! I'm keeping my eye on HP's lineup and see if they offer any more improvements to their notebooks. If my Dell doesn't turn out right, well, I'll be looking into HP's lineup.

Very nice! No one can complain about Hp and few dedicated graphics options anymore. The Dv5000t and Dv8000t look like they will be formidible competitors.

Gotta wonder why there's no dedicated video card option for the 14.1's.. Look how well the SZ's from Sony have been doing..

    Wow...

Sorry if someone answer this... I asked before but forgot where...

What would have better battery life? dv5000t (12 cell) or dv5000z (12 cell)?

Isn't HP taking a step backwards with the GPU...they no longer offer the X700and went to the 7400 G which according to the GPU reveiw Chaz did is comparable to the X600?

It seems to me like the Dv5000t remains a sort of value/bargin book in the line up. I'm betting they upgrade the Dv4000 and position it a bit higher up the chain with some better options. I don't think they'll completely drop it out of the line up.

overall - nice laptops. good design - no funky shiny silver strips, blue/orange/whatever colors, clean lines.

In the performance section it's downgrade, but GF has PS3.0 :) and x300-x800 - has not...

Yeah, the Go7400 is not as fast as an X700. But, the Go7400 has the Nvidia "PureVideo" technology, which improves video playback. Works quite well, videos are smoother and more accurate. And it does indeed have PS 3.0 as martynas said.

It depends on personal taste really. For me, anything higher than WXGA is unbearable -- being my eyesight isn't exactly great and all.

If you would like a notebook recommendation, I suggest going into the What to Buy forum and completing the FAQ. It will help us pick a notebook for you.

Fujitsu N6410 has better quality and a nicer screen, but is more expensive by a considerable amount.

I'm liking these new HP designs. They're nice and clean and they just look great! I wish they'd come out with a 13.3" widescreen though. 13" is just perfect for a full-sized keyboard, while being a great size to tote around.

I hope HP will come out with a Turion X2 notebook like both dv8000-series notebooks. I see both of these are nice, but I want to combine features of both!
I just wish HP would offer a choice of video cards (not just one option) when buying -- let the buyer choose ATI or NVIDIA. Hmm, what would it take to run 1680x1050?

Where is the new home-side laptop that is comparable to their 9320 - ie the dual core laptop with x1600 graphics. If they get that, they might get my business, otherwise no dice.
