Random question - do IPS screens have frame lag compared to TN screens?

so a dreamcolor laptop might not actually be a good idea for gamers

    Exactly so.

Although it might be good to wait for a review, after all IPS technology might have improved just enough for some decent gaming.

Hm, seems like RGB LED is the best quality LCD with essentially zero input lag, makes sense why Dell uses it on the M17x-r2.

I've been reading a couple reviews on modern IPS screens and they seem to only have 1-2 frames of lag, or 16-33 ms. For RTS, MMO, and most FPS games, 33 ms isn't noticeable... but it will be bad for playing Street Fighter IV or other fighting games on a laptop.

I was at first excited by the 8740w because it has essentially an ATI 5870 and Core i7 in a 1.5", rugged (mil spec) chassis, which is good for when I eventually deploy to the middle east and need to blow off steam by playing games. But then the dreamcolor display made me wait, because it's currently not offered, and the Envy17 is coming out in a few days with maybe a 3D display and roughly similar specs. Now I'm not sure, but I'm pretty much settled on getting one of the two.
