<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-09-25T11:38:40 -->The rumored Dell XPS M1730 is now up on the Dell.com website ready for ordering if you have a few thousand dollars spare and need a gaming notebook.
** Update ** The XPS M1730 has now been removed from the Dell website as of 10:00 a.m.
(view large image)One thing you can at least configure is the color, the M1730 is available in Sapphire Blue, Smoke Grey, Crimson Red and Bone White. Out of the three E-Value code configurations currently available on Dell the highest price option has the following specs:
- Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 (2.8GHz/800MHz FSB, 4MB Cache)
- 2GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 667MHz (up to 4GB available)
- RAID 2 performance 2 x 200GB 7200RPM disks (64GB SSD available)
- Blu-ray with DVD Burner
- Dual Nvidia GeForce 8700MGT cards with 512MB GDDR3 Memory
- Intel 802.11n wireless
- 9-cell battery
Strangely you can also get EVDO in this laptop, though it's not exactly something a road warrior will be taking with them given the size and weight of it!
To purchase the M1730 follow the link to Dell's site.

So thankful I didn't wait for this PC and got the XPS 720 instead what an overpriced PC LOL.
-
Jeez for 4 grand you can build yourself an absolutely sick ass gaming desktop, and still have some $2000 left over to buy yourself an ultra portable.
And why is a 2x200GB RAID hard drives more expensive than 2x250GB?
RAID Performance: 400GB (2x200GB) 7200RPM [Included in Price]
RAID Performance: 500GB (2x250GB) 7200RPM [subtract $25] -
the base price on such an ugly laptop is too much in my opinion
but then again dual 8700GTs in SLI mode does need respect.....atleast until the 8800s come out
and the buyers aare only confined to one option rather than two like the last gen's -
Thank you that you made me laugh with that "news".Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015 -

Y'know, I'm honestly rather sad that the Dell XPS M1730 is actually as ugly as all the leaked screenshots. I thought the 1710 looked great, but this... for the price... it's hard to believe.
No. Just... no. That's the single most expensive laptop that can carry a description of "fugly". $4.5K for... for that? Not including tax? WHAT? -
This was said to be the "Dell the highest price option ", and looking that it have the intel extreme processor and dual 8700, I really think think that the processor has vary bad performance/price ratio
-
well look at thr base config, its pretty decent, t7700, sli 8700gt's, 200gb HDD, 2gb of ram its not that bad rele. it just looks kinda not good

Damn I know I shouldn't have just purchased that new VW GTI. Now how can I afford my new XPS?
$10,325
As low as $310/month1 -
That 4.4K is a fully loaded version (as we all know the fully-loaded XPS version is overpriced [i.e. you could spend 2.5K on the xps1330 if you wanted to]).
The base config isn't bad at all:
T7700, WUXGA, Aegis PhysX mobile card (desktop one is like $225), Dual 8700GT SLi, 2gb ram, 200gb 7200rpm HD, 9-cell battery, etc for $2999. -
Don't worry, your car won't get obsolete nearly as fast as this laptop, I think.
-
i agree 3k for that is quite good but it looks ugly! but it wasnt built for style, it was built for power
-
-
ive seen that many of those laptops with style seem to have heat problems but the closest rival to this is the X205 and that is slower for the same base price.
-
-
wow. 2 x 64GB SSD. I can buy a 30" monitor for that price, but thats not the point.
-
It's definitely as ugly as the previews showed months ago. Dell did not fix that one prior to launch despite all the feedback from users. Why not a "Precision 6300" color option for folks not wanting to be laughed at? As for the price, I'd definitely get a PC if I needed this kind of performance, or a Nintendo Wii and 20 games if I wanted a portable gaming system. I'd still have plenty of money to buy a portable notebook that by the way can do well for work/business and play most games without any problem.

x205 starts from $1999...

why was it removed?
-
Probably the price scared Michael Dell.
-
desktop physx card is only 149. -
The bottom end config is specced really highly, which leads me to think that there will be a cheaper model coming sometime later with this: T7300 or T7500, WUXGA, no PhysX card, single 8700GT (mebbe dual 8600GTs?), 2GB/160GB (5400RPM), and the 9 cell battery for around $2200 or so. That would be my guess, anyways.

Who on earth is going toi buy a 2in thick laptop that looks like it's carved out of a piece of mable? The lid design's absolutely horrendous, too.
-

Okay, we need to stop complaining about the way this laptop looks. I think it's already been established that a lot of people think this laptop looks terrible. I, for one, agree when I look at the pictures, but then I try to imagine how amazing the laptop looks in person.
But seriously, where is the 1730 on the website? -
Where'd it go?
-
-
Can anyone confirm the full specs?
From what I see in the website flash demo,
There is only 3 USB
No HDMI
No subwoofer
but have dual-DVI
No Fingerprint reader
but have LED game panel
... -
It's not built for style, but who the heck wants a freaking ugly laptop? Dell could have just as easily made a marginal change to the 1710's case for the 1730, and we would all be happy.
I'll bet the design engineers at Apple are laughing their asses off. -
-
The only thing I dont like with the black one is XPS in red background, could be plain black with yellow XPS.
For my eye it looks good.
If you think it's ugly, fine, just give me 17'' Laptop which looks better -
-
The Asus G2S looks beautiful. Actually, I think the M1730 is the most ugly 17in I've ever seen, in fact, it could quite possibly be the most ugly notebook I've ever seen. Modern ones, I mean, ie. less than two years old. Even the E1505 looked nicer than that.

In Europe is altready out but you can't order it yet:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/emea/segments/gen/client/de/xpsnb_m1730_landing?c=de&l=de&s=gen
But in France now you can:
http://configure2.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=fr&cs=frdhs1&kc=N4XXPS04&l=fr&oc=N1017305&rbc=N1017305&s=dhs&~ck=expbuy3
And it is extremely expensive... are they crazy??? -
Anyone have any idea when the XPS is gonna be released for Asia?
-
I don't know but I hope you are reach enough to buy it...

Honestly... it also depends on the colour... at least in my opinion...
The gray one... well... i can accept it... maybe white one too...
But definitely... Teh Beast... It's a pitty there's no hairy one XD -
I try it to customize it in Europe: 2.8 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 2X200 7200 = with 5% discount 4283 (6038.43 US Dollar)

Seriously, Dell should consider hiring better designers for such a high-end laptop.
Even x205 looks better... Oh... I think the price alone is going to kill M1730. -
I Like OLD M1710 Design Than This New Look
-
There is some good in this ,
Now that both Dell & Toshiba have a 17" sli DTRs , HP will have to match them . -
Hmm, maybe not though. HP is outselling Dell and Toshiba by a fair margin and SLI notebooks are a very small market, so I think they can afford not to care.
That said, if HP did make a 17" SLI DTR, I think that would be really cool. -
I hope HP doesn't match Dell's exterior design ... For crying outloud, I STILL can't believe Dell killed the M1710 chassis and .. and ... THAT thing ... I mean it's TWO optical drive doors thick with the LID OPEN, and the color contrast design on the lid with the red and blue colors are just CALAMITIES for my eyes ...
Didn't they have the 7950 GX2 option in the M1710 a while back? Can't that be considered close to an SLI system? -
Old XPS!!!!!! Give me a brake, no color balance, looks like a toy... old XPS? No way.
Alienware - not that much different from new XPS. Both big, solid and black, with some design features.
New XPS 1730 (seen only black ) - its BIG, black, powerful and I like it. The price... oh well I will never buy it.
It is ugly-nice.
Sure the Asus Gx ones are nice. Asus overall is just boring. Toshiba has to be less delicate. FSC and Acer maximum of simplicity - boring. HP and IBM either old-fashioned (I like it) or crappy.
