oh, no! 11.6" weights 3 lbs? no kidding!
does it come with an optical drive or a 9 cell battery? -
It's a 6-cell battery and it's lighter than some 10" ASUS Eee netbooks.
For $585 US though I'd wait for some of the 11.6" CULVs coming out. -

The 3810T is expensive. I saw a few weeks ago the 3935 which is 13.3" with a Core 2 Duo P7350 on amazon for $850 (I think), but now can't find it anymore.

Interesting, the 3810T sold in Taiwan now only has Core 2 Solo. On the other hand, it already costs north of $850, so it's probably not that surprising to see the one with Core 2 Duo SU9400 to cost close to $1000.
BTW, here is the link to the 3935 you are talking about:

Estimated US price will be $750 with SU9400. Acer predicts over 8 hours battery life.Attached Files:

No fingerprint reader on the Acer Timeline?

Wait, weren't the CULVs supposed to be for the Timelines? Why is the Aspire model so expensive?

For the 11.6" Asipre One: GMA500 -
As you would expect for that price the build quality does not look great. The screen is also mediocre and the touchpad just does not look nice to use. If a laptop is going to be my main laptop then getting those things right is essential to me.
It is a good budget buy though.
To get an idea about the battery life for the 1.4 model is not that hard. You just have to look around what other laptops with that spec and battery capacity are getting.
The Sony TT uses those same specs and the battery life advantage will go to TT because of the smaller screen size. Users can get about 7 hours with a pretty aggressive power plan in place. Of course if you disable this that and the other like the dvd drive, wwan card you will get slightly more battery life. The Samsung x360 also use those same specs and with the 6 cell useable battery llife is not anywhere near what some people have been predicting for the 1.4 Timeline model. The Samsung also uses a pretty big high capacity 65w 6 cell battery.
The Core 2 solo consume 5.5w of power but the graphics card consumes quite a bit more power than the GMA 950 that is in netbooks or in older ultraportables. The netbook processors most of them consume about 2.5w of power. The ULV C2D models consume 10 w of power. So to say you will get 10 hours of the standard battery unless the laptop is in hibernation and the screen not at 0 and everything turned of is not being realistic.
I do wonder what the actual difference in battery life will be between the core 2 solo and core 2 duo ULV models.
Hopefully and what i would be glad to see is that this will create more competition and force high end manufacturers to lower their prices. I'm sure that will happen with some thin and lights anyway.
