Woof!
512MB graphics card? Is that a typo?
That's awesome either way. -
Maybe the 512Mb is with ATI's "HyperMemory" - Could be that it has 256Mb real and sucks down another 256Mb from system memory via the PCI express bus. I'm just speculating though... 512Mb seems a lot for a notebook card when most desktop ones don't even have that much yet. Even if it were less than 512Mb dedicated mem though, it looks like this one will be a nice beastie!
-
Well, the Nvidia 7800GTX desktop has 512mb but that card cost alot of money...
-
I agree with coriolis,
I have never liked the looks and all around Acer but this might be an option in my next purchase. -
I love the carbon fiber top, so cool looking. When I first saw this I thought it was a new Ferrari, but that's not the case. Given the high specs on this machine, I fear for the price of it :-/
-
"like the Ferrari"
The high end Travelmate is always the base for the Ferrari
The Ferrari usualy as better case and better graphic card and higher end LCD ( I could be wrong but thats what I observed on the default model. ) .
If this is the high end Travelmate , and if Acer still as Ferrari deal , cant wait to see the Ferrari 5000 -
I don't really think that the X1600 chipset is able to explode the real power of 512mg.... I mean, it is not the highest end chipset that ATI has got. Anyway.... looks good, more options for my next purchase. lol

Looks like a GREAT lappy...but like you guys said I am going to fear the pricetag. It might be a possibility for later this year to purchase. For now my I9300 is doing it right.
-
Thats awesome. Wow. Thats incredible. And Acer to beat it all.
-
MMM!!! if this is a taste of what's to come, I'm definitely saving my money for future laptops *nods at Asus V6J*
-
I have no doubt how fast / performance it has ...
but how much is it
maybe more than $3,000 ?? -
How much of a performance increase will the dual core yonah give over a similarly spec'ed single core p-m? Will the prices for the single core ones start to drop soon?
-
How heavy is that going to be god i would die to go to ces
-
Have you ever used an Acer Ferrari with a few external USB2 devices ?
Check out where all these USB device plug-in in the laptop, just on the right-front side of the laptop. Not terrible convenient if you a right handed user. -
Anyone know of any plans to release a 17" laptop with a Dual Core? AutoCAD (and games) looks much better on a big screen.

Keep an eye out for upcoming Dell's. I can't say more than that.
-
In a notebookforums thread about this computer, people have been saying that European stores already are taking preorders. The euro price is 2230, which is equivalent to $2800+ in American
. Midrange laptop going for such a high price, considering you can get a very nice Sager 5720 for that amount of money. -
This seems like a trend, but last year as well, Acer was among the first to announce a laptop for the then new Centrino Sonoma platform. The 8200 looks deadly, but should be pricey too, considering the specs.
Cheers!
Dell Inspiron 8600 |Celeron M 1.5 GHz|768MB RAM|30GB HD|32MB nVIDIA GeForce 5200 FX Go5200 -
Wow, nice battery life. I guess all those parts designed with power savings in mind really pay off. I want one of those x1600.
-
What is the screen resolution?
-
Screen resolution is WXGA. Also, thanks to wiz33 who informed me that the X1600 card is 256MB dedicated and 256MB can be taken from main memory -- so it's really only 256MB not 512MB as originally stated in the article (which I have now adjusted).
-
Not that I doubt you , but wouldn't it be odd to 'downgrade' the screen resolution from WSXGA+ (in the 8100) to just WXGA?
http://us.acer.com/acerpanam/page9....aram=US&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=3056931031 -
From trusted source, the screen resolution is WSXGA+ (1680x1050) and as Caudovittatus already wrote, the ATI graphics is using HyperMemory technology to have access to 256MB of system RAM in addition to its dedicated 256MB GDDR3 VRAM.

GDDR3 VRAM - very nice. Should make the X1600 perform quite well, I will be interested to see the benchmarks.
As for the laptop itself - $2,800 or so is too much in my opinion. A Sager NP-5720 with a Go7800GTX is less than that. As a matter of fact, for that amount of money, you could get a nicely spec'd out 9750 too. -
I WANT ONE!!!!
cool, looking at the original pics, that card to the side of the laptop is a bluetooth voip phone! COOL -
The screen is definately WSXGA+ (1680x1050) and is brighter than the 8104 screen. Also the price should be lower than $2800. Laptop pricing in Europe tends to be higher than the US for a couple of reasons. The market is not as competitive as the US and the sales volume is usually much higher in the US resulting in bigger discount to the distributors.

Wow this looks very very nice. And it would be very nice to have it. But Acer would also like to have your money... over $2k! AHHHHHHHH!

O.K. would someone mind enlightening me on Dual Core Processors? How does it have such good battery life? 6 hours? Jeez. Does that mean dual core processors run cool like the Pentium-M do? I don't want it to verheat:
Also, if they're offering end of the Janurary, where can I buy this bad boy?
Lastly, how much can I trust buying something that just came out? I heard this laptop won the International IT award or something like that. Does that mean it rocks my socks?
Thanks -

Hey cooldude - check out our News & Reviews forum, that's where all the new notebooks are announced, etc.
Yes, it will run cool as the Pentium M does.
There are a lot of manufacturers with the new dual core processor in their newly released notebooks - if they are all using it, then it has to work (let's hope). Personally, I like having a Sonoma-platform Pentium M, because it's the third generation of the Pentium M platform, with all the bugs worked out, and very stable.
Cheers. -
looks very cool. I'd definetly have one, 2GB of RAM is quite a lot!
-
There a review of one here:

T2XP FOR SALE ;-)
P.S. I'm joking :-D -
-
Oh god, that last review freaking glorifies the laptop, in my opinion, it'll be a while until those other laptop manufacturer's can make a laptop this sexy.
I want it now... lol...
Oh yeah... you think they're gonna pump the price higher than $2499 when it first comes out?
Last question, on the pictures in the asian website and mentioned in that last review is this PCMIA card that is supposed to support VoIP or have something to do w/ VoIP. Anyone have any ideas to what that little card does? Is it like a wireless microphone?
Thanks -
"An interesting additional feature is the Bluetooth VoIP phone. Acer is well aware that many notebook users, myself included, use VoIP to keep in touch when traveling abroad. The Bluetooth VoIP phone allows you to happily wander around your hotel room while chatting, without the need to be tied to your notebook via a headset. The VoIP phone is the shape of a PC Card, which isn’t surprising considering that it charges when inserted in the PC Card slot. The only downside to the VoIP phone is that it protrudes from the PC Card slot when it’s charging, so you couldn’t really store it in there. That said, this is still a great little feature from Acer."
So its mainly a headset for voip... or i do think so.
Anyway, I think I'll choose this laptop over the Inspiron 9400... I've seen a 9300 in real life and its HUGEEEE. Not portable at al. -
Anyone know if you can pull the Optical drive and add a 2nd battery or 2nd HD as you can on some of the competition?
-
I know that its used so that you don't have to be tied to the computer while using a headset.... But what does the card actually do? Does it have a microphone jack on it? Is it a microphone itself?
What is it? other than a card that lets me use VoIP without being tied to the computer. -
