    i read acer have a new laptop with 801.1g wireless, is there a point to the G?? since all cable modem speed is no more than 3Mb per sec at best.

    Yep this is a huge point to G. Although you don't need the extra bandwidth for the internet, if you plan on doing any sort of networking, ie transfering files, remote printing, streaming media etc etc, you will really like the extra speed.
    Also I found that the G in my new ASUS M6Ne laptop has a much better range than the b in my slightly older ASUS M2N.
    I would definitely recommend the G !

    almost all new laptops have wireless G. My new fujitsu S7010 even have gigabit ethernet. Usery1, you are correct the additional speed does very little unless you are transfering 100meg files all the time. It;s a waste of money for most users.
