Even if you've never purchased software from Nero, there's a good chance that you've already used some of it. That’s because Nero also produces basic disc burning software which is bundled free of charge with many external drives as well as with PCs outfitted built-in disc burning drives. However, the bundled software isn't nearly the same as Nero 11 Platinum, a comprehensive software package which lets you do just about anything you'd want to do in disc media creation, ranging from backup, rescue, and creating a CD or DVD cover toadvanced audio and video editing.

    You're still running XP???

Would have been nice to discuss burning performance on various drives using a selection of media. One of my biggest problems is matching media with drives, especially DVD+R DL, as I find it impossible to get successful burns at rated speeds.

I've used the audio editing quite a bit in previous versions for volume leveling of podcasts that were poorly recorded.

Something extra worth noting is that Nero has in the past done web sales from their own site. They now use a separate company that adds a layer of annoyance to the purchasing process. I bought what I thought was the full version on Cyber Monday only to find this morning that it was not the version that supports Blu Ray playback (something that Platinum will do!) When I finally found a contact number, the rep was not that helpful but did tell me (after I specifically asked) that it was possible to purchase an upgrade. Half a day later and I'm still waiting on the Platinum Serial Number :-(
