In today's office and home environments, most computers and related equipment are expected to perform a variety of functions and services. Printers are no exception to this multi-tasking productivity approach. If your home office or your student is still using a standalone fax, copier and printer then it's time to take a closer look at multifunction printers that do it all and at speeds and capacities far times greater than isolated technology islands.

When I bought my last multi function printer, a Canon MP210, I was cautious to check what the life cycle cost of the printer would be. By this I mean the cost of the actual printer plus the cost of ink.

I generally found for example that HP multi functions that suited my needs were cheaper, but the 'official' ink was more expensive. However, three years since then the price of HP ink relative to its competitors appears to have dropped a little.

I am aware this may not fit with the target topic of this article, but expensive ink or cartridges that don't last as long as they should can be a real problem.

Excellent way of thinking and a sound business practice.People that don't bother to calculate the total cost might be in for nasty surprises.
