Each month we compile data for the number of times a particular notebook is viewed on this sites product pages to get an idea for what mainstream consumers are looking at and thinking about buying. Interestingly in November the lowly Dell Vostro 1000 rocketed up the charts as people gained interest when the model dropped to $399 in price.

    1. Dell Vostro 1500 (Previously #1) - The Dell Vostro 1500 is much like the Inspiron 1520 -- it has a 15.4" display, the same build and for the most part the same port configuration. However, it is aimed at business users and is therefore all black in its looks. You can also configure it with Windows XP. The Vostro 1500 comes with the latest Intel Santa Rosa platform.

There's not much power to this notebook, but it can be had for cheap, recently seen as low as $399.

Interesting how the Apple MacBook generated more hits than the MacBook Pro this month, considering normally the MacBook Pro gets more. Most likely because the MacBook was updated earlier in November.

Maybe, but it wasn't a widely announced update. I think its probably because the MB is cheaper and thus a better gift idea for the holidays.

Well, the MacBook has always been a better seller out there. Its the top selling Mac in the lineup right now. Its just NBR forums, where people are more techie, seem to be attracted to the MBP more. MBP users outnumber MacBook users here.

Wait a sec toshiba A200 out more famous than the DV6500T and the Inspiron M1520. Something that bugs me is when people who do not know much about laptops think Toshiba is the best. If i ever buy another PC,(which does not seem like it is going to happen), I would first consider Asus, but all ways Acer over Toshiba.

Yes, but the i1520 is the same notebook as the Vostro 1500, which is at the top of the charts once more.

Yep. That was a blockbuster deal at $399. Though, to be honest, I did prefer the $350 Compaq at Staples, since it had the PenDC processor.

So it's interesting that Dells, Sonys and Lenovos often dominate the popularity charts, but a relatively quiet HP is shipping greater volumes. Is this an indication that HP buyers do little to no research in their purchase?

I would imagine so. HP's I would think sell a lot of in store budget machines, unlike Dell. I would think most purchasers who research online are those looking at buying online.

Looks like HP isn't strong in the premium consumer range (although I thought that's where they target their Pavillion range). I know HP sells a lot of their corporate notebooks, but obviously those won't factor into web statistics like NBR. I guess HP lacks a proper consumer gaming range which would allow them to challenge Dell's dominance among tech geeks.
