Most Popular Laptops for January 2008

Each month we compile data for the number of times a particular notebook is viewed on this sites product pages to get an idea for what mainstream consumers are looking at and thinking about buying. Not surprising, the Apple MacBook Air generated a lot of excitement with its announcement this January and so it rocketed up to the #2 spot in just a few days time. However, the Dell XPS M1530 maintained strength in the top spot.

	1. Dell XPS M1530 (new to top ten) - The Dell XPS M1530 is the larger brother to the XPS M1330. 	2. Apple MacBook Air (new to top ten) - The Apple MacBook Air burst onto the scene this month at MacWorld 2008. It's the thinnest notebook ever. It comes equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo low voltage processor and your choice of a speedy 64GB SSD drive or slow 4200RPM 80GB 1.8" hard drive.
	3. Lenovo ThinkPad T61 (Previously #2) - The ThinkPad T61 was released in May of 2007 and is still holding strong on the most popular charts. Seriously, why don't you rename this to "Most Clickable Laptops" or something, so people don't get confused (and yes they do )...

Yeah, that would be nice to say that this does not actually reflect sales.

 

Well, 80% of the traffic to this site on any given day is via a Google search and the forums do not actually get as much traffic as the main www. part of the site, so what you see discussed in the forums does not always reflect what other people are viewing. Google stuff like "xps m1530 review" and "thinkpad t61 review" and you'll see why these laptops are in the top 10. Basically this list is a measure of what googlers are searching on the most and then arriving at nbr for, so it is actually a pretty good measure for the consumer audience of the web as a whole.

 

So on that account, Dell and Lenovo should be ruling the world by the sheer volume of PCs they are selling and the popularity of their notebooks?

 

I'd have to say that the list is great as it is. I don't think I've ever spent ten minutes on these forums w/o coming across a post where the XPS M1530 or the T61 isn't mentioned. If we're simply looking at just the popularity of recent notebooks, then Andrew's list pretty much does the job. Still though, which the Asus EEE had replaced the Apple MB for the first #10 slot
