Each month we compile data for the number of times a particular notebook is viewed on this sites product pages to get an idea for what mainstream consumers are looking at and thinking about buying. In August Dell continued to do well on the charts with their Inspiron and Vostro line of notebooks. Discussion on the new game Bioshock was the most popular thread in our forums last month.

[IMG] 1. Dell Inspiron 1520 (Previously #1) - Dell announced the Inspiron 1520 at the end of June and since then the Inspiron 1520 has been tearing up the charts. This new Dell mainstream 15.4" has the Intel Santa Rosa platform on board and comes in 8-different color selections. As usual, it can be configured to your heart's delight. Lookout though, Dell is experiencing major delays in shipping this laptop.
[IMG] 2. Dell Vostro 1500 (Previously #6) - The Dell Vostro 1500 is much like the Inspiron 1520 -- it has a 15.4" display, the same build and for the most part the same port configuration. However, it is aimed at business users and is therefore all black in its looks. You can also configure it with Windows XP. The Vostro 1500 comes with the latest Intel Santa Rosa platform.
[IMG] 3. Lenovo ThinkPad T61 (Previously #3) - The ThinkPad T61 was released in May and is still holding strong on the most popular charts. The T61 sports the new Intel Santa Rosa (Centrino Duo) platform and improves upon the popular T60 by offering an even sturdier build and extra port options.
[IMG] 4. Dell XPS M1330 (Previously #2) - The XPS M1330 stays solid on charts at #4 for the month. The M1330 is a 13.3" portable notebook with the Intel Santa Rosa processor, Nvidia 8400M graphics and slick looks. The M1330 is available in red and black color lid options.
[IMG] 5. Dell Vostro 1400 (new to top ten) - The Dell Vostro 1400 is a 14.1" business laptop from Dell. Surprisingly it's even more popular than the Dell Inspiron 1420 consumer notebook that offers color lid options. Maybe the black look and 30-day satisfaction guarantee is powering this notebook up the charts.
[IMG] 6. Sony VAIO SZ (Previously #5) - Performance in a small package, that sums up the Sony VAIO SZ. The bright glossy 13.3" display is powered by dedicated graphics and is being updated with the Intel Santa Rosa platform for an extra performance boost. Sony recently released the VAIO SZ6.
[IMG] 7. HP Pavilion dv6500t (Previously #8) - The HP dv6500t is a 15.4" widescreen display laptop that has the latest Intel Santa Rosa platform. It offers a very nice imprint finish glossy design and comes with a very reasonable price tag, starting at about $1,000 with some configurations.
[IMG] 8. Dell Inspiron 1420 (Previously #4) - The Inspiron 1420 is the smaller brother of the Inspiron 1520. The 1420 has a 14.1" screen widescreen display, the latest Intel processor platform, option built-in EVDO, Nvidia 8400 graphics card and of course the selection of 8-colors.
[IMG] 9. Lenovo ThinkPad T60 (Previously #6) - The ThinkPad T60 is the predecessor to the T61 that comes with either a 14" or 15" display and is powered by a Core 2 Duo processor.
[IMG] 10. Apple MacBook Pro (back in top ten) - Power, beauty and utility sum up the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro is available in 15.4" or 17" format

And here's the rest of 'em rounding out the top 20 most viewed and popular on NotebookReview.com for the month of August:

Why the T60 is still on the charts is beyond my logic. Lenovo doesn't even sell it anymore!

The 30 day satisfaction guarantee may make me try a Vostro 1500 for size (with an 8600GT :D)

I know it's way to new, but the tecra A9 with santa rosa, is very nice....got one coming tomorrow. Choice of XP and fortunate enough to see and hear of Toshiba's reliabilty was the deal breaker....

I remember a few months ago there were no Dells in the top ten, they're becoming popular again.

I am in the process of purchasing a notebook. I am with a firm that offers discounts direct, so I do get some relief. We have a pretty good deal with Lenovo and I was looking at the T61, 2.2, withthe NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (128MB). Although this will be a work computer for me, I love to play games like Rome Total War and similar games. Not much for the shooters. I intend to upgrade to 4MGB's of 3rd party ram. I am also interested in the 100GB, 7200 rpm HD upgrade. Will do the turbo memory as well. As I am interested in the 14.1", for portability, what kind of game experience can I expect? Thanks

Hi, I'd recommend that you complete the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum (not here) so we can give you some advice.
