Netbooks don’t exactly live up to their billing as ultraportable devices. You can’t take them everywhere and they don’t fit in a pocket or small purse. Factor in a power supply, mouse and any other accessories, and an “ultraportable” netbook suddenly requires a case or backpack, just like a large laptop.

Case and backpack maker Mobile Edge gets this, and as evident by its $50 Edge Ultra Portable Backpack, it also gets that an inexpensive netbook shouldn’t require a pricey case. But does its Edge Ultra Portable Backpack provide enough protection, comfort and functionality for everyday use? Read on to find out.

I wouldn't call this a good bike bag, not with zippers that go down all the way on the sides. A zipper failure while riding would be disastrous with that zipper layout. A smaller version of their SecurePack would be perfect.

I'm with you on waiting a backpack that will fit smaller computers nicely. At least my 12" computer fits perfectly when placed sideways in the sleeve of my MobileEdge Premium pack.

That's a great point about the zippers. Though, in order to be "TSA complaint," the bag must be able to offer a full and unobstructed view of the laptop. The zippers allow the user to fully open the bag and fold the front flap over flat. I will say however, the zipper does seem to be the best constructed - or most rugged - element on the bag.

That's a good point. That's really good to know about the zipper too.
