According to a DigiTimes report, Microsoft and Intel are planning to limit the screen sizes of netbooks running Windows 7 to 10.2 inches, down from the previous high of 12.1 inches for netbooks running XP.

I actually think this is a good idea for several reasons.

1.) It keeps netbooks from cutting further into regular laptop sales.

2.) It keeps them a distinct product with a specific purpose as a "complimentary device".

3.) It will keep prices down.

4.) ...all of which will make the consumers lives' easier.

and any netbook not meeting the spec will be doomed as they say on slashdot, etc. and has to use linux.

oh, no, it could JUST USE THE HOME PREMIUM licence of Windows 7.

    in other words, who cares?

    NO ONE.

There was discussion on a few other websites that this is a move by Intel to edge out VIA in the netbook market, because VIA's netbooks are all more than 10.2". Not exactly sure how true that line of thinking is, but it is a possibility.

I can't help but feel this is a bad idea. Hopefully more producers will start to use the Neo and Nano thanks to this, as well as linix, but chances are that won't happen.

Alternatively, Intel may be trying to keep VIA alive by leaving a market segment (netbook-level hardware with >10.2" screen) open to others. Whether the manufacturers of those netbooks can get Microsoft to rethink its pricing strategy remains to be seen.

Hello everyone? You can all still have windows 7 on it, just like you can always have any os installed everywhere.

Microsoft just doesn't licence the cheapest, smallest and most crippled version for bigger netbooks and notebooks. the version no one of you would want, anyways.

bigger netbooks or notebooks will just get licenced with win7 home premium and thus have more software features anyways.
