I'm not sure if anybody posted this already but in their second quarter earnings report, Intel has announced that Merom has already begun to be shipped. Go to page three at the bottom of the second bullet where you'll see it says,

I'm really excited about this 'cause it could mean I can get my new laptop before I head off to college and avoid bringing my three year old laptop with me.

hmm... i've been all over the core duo (currently debating between the dell e1405 and the macbook 1.83 core duo) but... does this mean I should be waiting or (crossing fingers) than the core duos will become less expensive in favor of this newer technology?

thanks! this board has helped me sooo much!

From what I understand, there will not be a price break (from Intel at least) when Core 2 Duos are actually in computers because that's "just not the way the processor market works." I honestly don't know why but maybe the company you eventually will buy from will have its own price-cut to make Core 2 Duo more attractive.

If the choice is between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo, wait for the latter, if only to get the 64-bit capability (even though it's likely inferior to AMD's x86-64 implementation at least it ought to be binary compatible). Be sure to get a 4MB L2 cache version to compensate for Intel's lack of an integrated memory controller. It'll be interesting to see if Apple gets the first batch of C2D's, same as they did with the Core Duos.

    Good find Nrbelex .

I'm curious too as there are many new models out with "old" or "low" core duo like the T2050 , I believe the prices will stay much the same but those "old" cpus will be phased out .

Nice find, and thanks for sharing it. I don't think I'll be upgrading yet - that is, until I see that I'll benefit from a new CPU.

The current Yonah will still be produced for a while, even though the Core 2's are out. Expect the T2050 and T2250 to last a while, probably longer than any of the other processors in the Yonah lineup.

Seeing as the pricing for Meroms was already published, could anyone estimate the price difference between a laptop with Yonah and laptop with a Merom, both the same clock speed ?
I know this will probably vary between manufactures, but not much, right ?

The Merom will have the same pricing as the Yonah (in batches of 1,000). Prices may be higher initially, but will level out. How much the consumer will end up paying is up to the manufacturers of course.

From my understanding Yonah processors were originally supposed to recieve price cuts at the beginning of September. My bet is, these price cuts still take effect at the beginning of Sept. Why? While Merom my be shipping, it wont be until the end of August that OEMs will have systems avalible.
