Maingear updated its eX-L 15 gaming laptop, adding Intel Core i5 and i7 CPU options and ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics to the mix. The 15-inch laptop offers gamers the most advanced mobile CPU and GPU technologies under one roof. Dual-core Core i5 and Core i7 chips are built on Intel's latest 32nm manufacturing technology, and the Radeon HD 5870 graphics processor, which supports DirectX 11 and features 1 GB of dedicated video RAM.

What is this thing based on? Is it a Clevo or something else?

In any case, it sounds like a case where paying for the best means you're way, way beyond the point of diminishing returns. You get:

The display is 1600x900 and the weight is 7.4lbs.

Now, compare it to the MSI GX640 -- it has a slightly wimpier Core i5-430M and a Radeon HD 5850 rather than 5870, but it only costs $1,099 (with a 500GB hard drive and a 1650x1050 display) and only weighs 5.8lbs. The only people the eX-L 15 makes sense for are those who want maximum performance no matter the weight or the price.

this is something i'm also wondering too... is this based on clevo or what? If it is , then , really its a rip off... MSI GX640 is a good option but is really killed by 1680X1050 screen.. this one goes up to full HD...

I disagree. 1680x1050 is perfect for a 15" laptop -- any higher than that and stuff becomes too small. One of the main draws of the MSI for me is that it is still 16:10. Besides, if you opt for 1920x1080 with this eX-L 15, it will cost you at least $1700.

That's the Clevo NP8690. Plain and simple. Compare their pictures with the Clevo. 100% identical. Rebadged and price jacked up.

Yeah its a rebranded Clevo W860CU.

notebookcheck.com always posts silly news like these, every time a Clevo or MSI rebrand pops out.

Kind of a late review of a rebranded Sager that's been out out for months. Why even bother posting a thread about this?
