Today MSI announced that they were also bringing an iPad-like device to the table, powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform. This slate device will be priced right around $500, putting it head to head with the Apple iPad. No release date is set right now but MSI plans to start shipping models later this year. Thank you for referring to a tablets as an "iPad competitor". It just means we get more jokes relating to pads... If MSI wants to succeed they need great hardware and some marketing. The Nvidia Tegra 2 sounds great. Also, the screen ratio appears more suitable for watching videos. It uses Android, which is capable for most tasks. Best of all it has a large app variety, and a great set of developer tools. As it looks currently, I'd purchase one of these over the iPad if the screen is of good quality and the touch support is adequate. (I'm assuming Apple wouldn't ever make a silly mistake by using sub par components)

Great News! Apple will have some serious competition. I wouldn't be surprised to see Asus announcing one in the coming weeks too.

Haha now I recognized them!
I actually think it sucks that Apple is getting the credit for this innovation while MSI showed it before though -
the EEE Pad was confirmed some time ago by the ASUS CEO.

True, MSI has talked a bit about its tablet before, but it only just now announced that it's going to run Google's Android OS. And we'd never before seen it running. Basically, all that MSI had said was that it's making a tablet based on the Tegra 2 chip.
Android makes it a significantly more interesting device, at least in my opinion.
