    MSI Intros New X-Slim Notebooks
    [IMG]
MSI has announced the latest additions to its X-Slim notebook lineup: the 14-inch X400 and 15-inch X600; both will become available this quarter. The X-Slim series of notebooks are based on Intel's Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) platform. The X400 and X600 are less than one inch thick, have LED-backlit 16:9 widescreen displays, and Blu-ray support. All screens options have a resolution of 1366x768.

The X400 weighs in at 3.3 pounds (1.5 kg), and the X600 comes in at 4.6 pounds (2.1 kg). The X400 comes with a 4-cell Li-poly (as opposed to the traditional Li-ion) battery; an 8-cell extended life battery is available. The X600 is available with a 9-cell extended life battery. All X-Slim notebooks use external optical drives.
Both the X400 and X600 feature Intel Core 2 Solo processors, HDMI, up to 500GB hard drives, and up to 4GB of RAM. A main difference between the X400 and the X600 is in the graphics department; the X400 has an integrated Intel X4500HD graphics card, while the X600 features an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330.

Does X400 have internal optical? What does "Blu-ray support" mean?

Means that they are HD capable, and meet all requirements, such as GPU. Although that doesn't mean they come with a blueray drive.
Theres no reason the X400 wouldn't also have an external drive.

Nice to see a maker use Li-poly as opposed to Li-ion other than Apple.

It means capable of playing HD as noted, and it supports Blu-ray through the external drive.

Well, I was being a little sacarstic, actually. Except netbook and some budget notebooks that are still using older hardware (like the ones that still have DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives), practically any current mainstream consumer notebook can have (and do have) HDMI and can use external Blu-ray (regardless of internal optical). ;)

Still, I guess it's a feature and worth mentioning. I would really love to see someone else break into Sony's stronghold in the sub-4 lb. with internal Blu-ray segment. On the other hand, 14" screen with no internal optical at the same weight of my Sony Z540 is still a good achievement.
