Claiming to be the world's thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop, MSI's GS70 offers 4K output, an Intel Core i7 Haswell CPU, and NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 765M - all at less than an inch thick.

I wonder how Razer is going to compete. Their Blade Pro is similar, but lacking in 2 Mini Display ports, rainbow keyboard, and HDD accompanying the SSD. I just don't think the Switchblade UI trackpad is worth $500 more...

I was thinking along similar lines. It's (the Blade Pro) also a pound heavier, with half the RAM. I'm betting Razer has the edge on build quality and maybe battery life, but obviously I couldn't say without some personal impressions of the MSI.

I share these sentiments. The GS70's internals (at least what I've seen) look flimsy and unprotected, and it has a lower-capacity battery than the Razer. That might explain the lightweight chassis. The Razer looks better too: I don't know why the gaudy logo on the back of the GS70's lid is there.

I don't know if the Blade Pro is worth $500 more though.

Certainly fills a niche, but just as with the Blade, i feel this is just too expensive. Id seriously consider a blade at a sub $1500 price point, and I'd consider the msi at around $1350.

Good looking notebook though, even with the logo on the lid.

I don't think a $1350 price point is reasonable, considering what you're getting in this envelope.

Agree. Performance wise $1350 if fair... for a 7.5-10LB 1.5" thick gaming Laptop with the GTX 765m. You pay extra for a 17" screen in what is essentially a gaming Ultrabook. I got my Razer Blade R1 for slightly less than $1700 in 2012, I consider that about fair. Never pay full price is my philosophy, but you need to consider what your getting in the package.

Guys.... it's not all about bang for buck performance. Engineering cost money... I.E to make things smaller but perform the same cost money!

There are lot of people myself included who will pay $$$ for having gaming notebooks, in small and portable form factor.

I personally am glad MSI is getting into this segment, which will help pull the price down for the Blade Pro.... However I don't think it's going to be a significant movement...

its incredible how its a general consensus that that logo needs to go, its gaudy and badly made. aside the stupidity of putting that thing in a model called STEALTH and with subdued design to match the description you also have the inconsistency of that none of their real gaming lines use that logo

I find this an interesting proposition, I wish that they removed the GE line and went with this, I also hope that the chassis is actually good and not the flimsy thing that they have been using since the EX and GE line (they are the same after all)

I like the idea, but I'd like to start seeing some IPS displays on more gaming laptops. So far the new Alienware M14 is one of the few...

You forgot to mention Clevo W230st which also comes with an IPS panel with better brightness/color gamut and much less grainy than Alienware 14. (I had both btw)

From this user review, that "badge" lights up: MSI GS70 Stealth Gaming Notebook Review - AnandTech Forums

" As expected, the MSI logo at the back glows when the laptop is switched on."

So my guess is it would just leave a big gaping hole in the back. :p

I agree though, that badge is an eye sore. For a laptop named "Stealth" it isn't too stealth.
