Just when you thought a 19" notebook was big, the Liebermann Olympus 20" gets rolled out. The Olympus 20" seems almost mythical based on the spec sheet. It supports Intel's Pentium-D Dual-Core and Extreme Edition processors, along with quad DVI-out, an integrated 3 megapixel camera, dual Blue-Ray and HD-DVD optical drives, and dual graphics cards with up to 1GB RAM each.
The rest of the spec sheet doesn't slow down either:
- 20.1" widescreen - 1920x1200 resolution OLED
- Single or Dual Core desktop processor up to 4.50GHz
- PCI-Express architecture
- 4GB DDR SDRAM
- Built-in 3 megapixel camera
- 1066 MHz BUS
- Dual SLI Nvidia graphics (upgradable)
- 7-1 card reader
- Instant-On technology
- PuRAM Solid State system drive
- Dual internal SATA hard drives
- Dual Blue-Ray and HD-DVD optical drives
- 5 enhanced speakers plus subwoofer
- PAL/NTSC HDTV internal tuner
- Digital audio
- Dual 64 bit PCI-Express CardBus
- Firewire 800
- USB2
- Gigabit LAN
- 108g turbo wireless
- Bluetooth
- High speed infrared
- Quad DVI output
- S-Video out
The Liebermann Olympus 20" sounds pretty hot right? The only down side is the machine sounds too good to be true, and may in fact be. There's no release date known and the company representative we talked with could offer no guidance on pricing either. Rest assured it will probably approach, if not surpass$10,000. If nothing else it acts as a nice proof of concept.

This is more like an all-in-one desktop....
-
I am sure this is FAR from portable. With all of the heat generating elements in it, I bet there are a few pounds of heat sinks in there.

i think its toooooo small!!! I want bigger, 30" LAptop plz
Well it is interesting to see how much can be put into a laptop, but then they din't use a mobile cpu... ohwell.. batterylife = 1 hour? LOL! Or does it have a 30 cell battery with over 1000 watts or something...
BTW, the bezel around the LCD is NICE!! small and thin.. good job there
Thanks for sharing,

that spec sheet is absolutely insane. The only true advantage I can see of having this rather than a PC is the portability and the little amount of space it would take up. Other than that you might as well sink the dough into a nice PC. Still...really cool idea.
-
Awesome in every single way. It even looks pretty sexy.
-
Very nice, I wish it'd be able to use an AMD FX if it's going to use desktop processors though..
-
I think Nick will get this one too...
-
I thought that that company went under years ago?

This is with one word incredible... a HD-DVD and a Blue-ray... so you can support them both!
And processor yp to 4.5 GHz is impossible, the new line of Intel (Conroe) has a maximum of 3.33 for the EE. So please change that...

I'm sorry, but I read this and just started laughing uncontrolably.
I love high specs, but these are out of this world. Desktop CPU's just don't cut it anymore. I love the high CPU and GPU capabilities plus the large screen, but the DVD/BR drives just immediately kill things. It's got too much fluff. -

Ahh, the famed "L Computers" is back at it again, I see. Vaporware abounds.

Dudes, you know I have NEVER laughed so much in my whole whole life hahaha check that link!
I truelly thought it was a 30" on a Dell 6400 hahaha.... man thanks for the link. I recommend everyone to watch it haha.

Quad DVI? That's insane, I'd give a lot to have that on my notebook.
Otherwise, the Pentium D is outdated; Intel has completely abandoned the NetBurst microarchitecture. Hopefully, if it comes out, it will support Core.

Aren't those the same guys that promised some time ago a super line of laptops but never came to ?
Anyway this seem to me like they are going to use ALL desktop components in a notebook like case so it shouldn't cost as a super notebook but more like a super desktop . -

Someone needs to remind this company that April Fool's Day was just about 2 months ago.

Wow, just when you think 19" is big enough...is there ever going to be a "too big" category? Maybe when it doesn't fit in your backpack anymore...or when you use that to train with before you hike up Mt. Rainer? heh. i want one though, damn, awesome specs.
-
quad DVI is normal when you think about it, it has SLI vid cards. while the quad dvi is not normal for a nb, it is very common with sli dt comps
-
is thath REALLY OLED????
if that thing will be not concept model or smth, then we will have first normal size mainstream oled display?
(not counting tiny ones on mobile phones) -
meh .. the famed "go-l" computers are at it again ..
As far as i recall, they're very good at inventing out of this world spec sheets (and pricetags!) .. and that's about it. -
Yes marty, an OLED that large would be amazing, as is the rest of this machine. Incidentally when we started asking questions their press contact said someone else would get back to us, which did not happen.
-
lol didn't that company shutdown like 2 years ago? Definitely good stuff right there!
20.1" OLED? Last time I've heard, the largest OLED is indeed, 20.1", it's a prototype developed by LG Philips, with a whooping resolution of 2028x1536.
BTW that picture of the "notebook" was the same one that was on their website way back in 2004. As reported by engadget back then when Liebermann supposely closed their doors http://www.engadget.com/2004/10/15/liebermann-ends-it-all/ hahahhahahah good stuff indeed!
Speaking of which I got something I'm working on, and is almost ready for the market as well:
2.2lb notebook, barely larger than a pad of paper.
Conroe Duo Extreme Quad Core 0.8W low voltage 5.0ghz Hypertransport Turbo Edition with 1.8GB on-chip cache
500GB 0.8" 15,000rpm SATA-5 HD
Nvidia 98000 with ATI x9000 as PSU running at 1GHZ, 2GB dedicated memory
15.4" OLED display(WS of course), 1ns response time, 48bit color depth, 3200x2800 resolution (free magnefier included)
48GB DDR8 ram (expandable to 96GB)
28MP digital SLR attached to the top of the OLED display, double as vid cam that records in HD
Nuclear powered battery, good for 9000 years per charge
I know that this thing probably will cost more than $10,000, but hey it's a nice proof of concept at least. we can all dream...
cheers,

well id like to add the comment that it looks like a clevo.
