    Great review! I love the T60, but can't stand a non-widescreen now...

A minor point, but the Dell D620 which I have in front of me does have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which I believe is the "embedded security chip" which you refer to. It was off when the laptop arrived, but can be enabled in the BIOS, and is actually required for the fingerprint scanner on this laptop to work.

That is a pretty good deal but yeah, the fullscreen is actually a deal breaker for me, I absolutely need widescreen. Eh.

You're correct, Dell also offers a SmartCard for technology -- although that's about zero use to cosumers I'm sure some IT shops use it.

Thanks for the review. I got my T60 during the same special offering period, with similar config to yours. I love it!

You mentioned the weight several times...and how the 9cell did not seem to be a big deal to you.

Could you post the units weight, with/without battery?
Perhaps compare to weight with 6 cell?

I am sure the data is available somewhere online but would be easier to have in review.

    Thanks for write up.

Thanks for this review, Paul. It looks like you chose an excellent notebook for your wife.

I have a question about the trackpoint and touchpad. Can the pointer speed be set for each device independently? I recently looked at a Dell D620 and I found no way to select a pointer speed that would work with both devices. Either the trackpoint had the right speed and the touchpad was too slow, or the touchpad had the right speed and the trackpoint was too fast. How can the pointer speed be controlled with the T60?

For those who prefer widescreen, the T60 is now also offered with a widescreen display. This site had a review of the widescreen T60 in November.

As far as the keyboard is concerned, that comes down to personal preference. However, the vast majority of users appear to prefer ThinkPad keyboards over those of competing notebooks.

Hi Paul, thanks for the review. I found it very detailed and informative.

The T60 configuration which you tested just so happens to be the exact spec which I am currently looking for. However, for some reason, I am not able to find it on Lenovo's website.

You say that your machine was equipped with a Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0 GHz processor. However, the links in your review point to a model 2623D6U with only a Core Duo processor (not Core 2 Duo). Is this just an incorrect link?

I would like to get the 128 MB ATI Radeon X1400 in a Core 2 Duo T60, but can only seem to find it in the 15.4 widescreen version, and not the 14.1. I think I might prefer the non-widescreen version. Please let me know where I can get more purchasing information on the model which you tested. Thank you.

I am considering buying one of the Widescreen T60s myself for my last two years at the University. While they may not have the pretty looks of HP or others, they have IBM/Lenovo's legendary quality, reliability, and last forever. ;)...1680x1050, 2 GB RAM, T7200, X1400 w/128 (I wish it was nVidia... but i dont think it matters much).... awesome ;)
