Lenovo ThinkPad R60 Review (pics, specs) Discussion

The ThinkPad R60 from Lenovo was recently released and is an update to the ThinkPad R52. The R60 can be thought of as a budget version of the ThinkPad T60. Many options on the T60 are available on the R60 and sizes are very similar. However, the T60 is thinner and has a more durable casing. Those differences aside, if your cost sensitive and don't crave the thinner more solid case of the T60 then the still very respectable (and cheaper) R60 might be for you.

I like your practical reviews abaxter, and this is not an exception. Great work.
Some Thinkpad T-series users would crucify you mentioning T model in review of R series of notebook, or comparing it to premium T-model, but you took it very nicely. T is not from another world, you pointed out it has some parts exact with R model.
Finnaly R-60 series notebooks don't look so cheap as some of its predecesors, R40 in particular (compared to T40). It seems even Lenovo understood R-series was in need of a facelift, pushing it a bit above in quality now.

I have a question. As you reviewed Z60t and Z60m too (as many others), I desperately need your oppinion. Should I buy R60 15'' model, or Z60m?

I need it as a desktop replacement, and Z60 seems to be a better notebook overall. But it may look better because you reviewed it last year, whereas many things seen on Z60m won't surprise here on R60 review. But it seems the displey rocks on Z60m whereas here wasn't so nice.

Which one would you pick up? The prices are almost the same, for standard configuration, so not high-end graphic card or CPU. I would go for 1400x1050 on R60 or for 1280x800 on Z60m, doesn't matter, just want better book of this 2.

Great review, but it appears that Lenovo is NOT including Firewire port in all R60. I bought mine through Lenovo website (CTO=Customized To Order version), and firewire was not included to my surprise. When I called Lenovo, the sales rep said the firewire was not supposed to be included in my order, and it would have been included if I bought a model with a better (i.e. more expensive) processor. I bought the cheapest of Core 2 Duo.
