The Y580 looks like a real legitimate gaming laptop contender! Has practically everything one could ask for in a 15'' gaming laptop with seemingly much less heft than the competition. Though the 660M GTX is still a unknown at this point, if it's at least a upgrade to the 560M GTX I can't complain.

Metamorphical Good computer user
More crazy colors. I like the looks of the Y480 and Y580 however. Its to bad the U310 and U410 are probably the same as the current models. Those laptops really need to have SD card readers added to them.
-
Now if only they would offer matte ips displays with higher resolutions than the cripplingly-inefficient 1366x768 on their thin 13-14 inch models, I would buy it...
-
I don't think the Y 4/580 will handle the heat well. Look at the chassis itself, with a GTX660m very unlikely to happen. I can see GT 635m in there like the current GT555m
-
Awesome. They finally included a SD reader, but then they removed the DVD drive on the u410 model?
Instead of trying to be CHEAPER than APPLE, why not try to be better? People are willing to pay MORE for a better product. Better quality and better features.
The U310 looks good though. I might get that. But waiting to see if Asus is coming out the a revised ux31. -

I would have bought the U300s or U400 had they included an SD reader and a USB port located in better spot. I mean, some people still like to use a wired mouse. Not sure Lenovo was smoking when they put the USB port on the front right. They should have one USB port near the back right. (Like the Mac Air or the UX31)
Look at the UX31 from Asus. It looks awesome but has an huge number of return rate. it looks nice, but it doesn't work.
That's what happen when you cheap out on stuff.
I actually bought one in November. I wanted to like it, I wanted to keep it, but it had to go. Touchpad was acting out every now and then and it was lagging too. I had the ADATA version and it booted fast, but browsing the web was slow.
I mean, I should have just paid more and get a working Mac Air.
Now I'm just waiting to see what Lenovo or Asus has to offer in the next coming month.
If they haven't learned from their mistakes, then I see a lot of people jumping over to Mac. People hate on Mac a lot, but at least their products work. -
I'm pretty much in your position with a hp envy 15 looking to move on to either a 2012 clevo or something else that fits the bill. The 660M GTX got me hopeful, but this is the first I've even heard of the card. -

saying a huge return rate requires some definition of 'huge.' return rates are usually below 5% for non-recalled products...yet no one is going to claim that 5% is a huge relative to the non-returned products. -
5%? You sure about that. I say more like 20-50%. Which is the Asus made a few changes in the upcoming lineup. Same with Lenovo.
Asus got rid of the crappy Sentelic touchpad and Lenovo decided to add a SD reader.
Samsung decided to do a complete makeover. lol -
HP never again. Enough said Genryu

The 6-series GPUs are just direct rebrands of the 5-series. Not even clock updates or anything. So this is actually a 128bit 560m. Not as good as the 192bit, but still a great GPU that supports optimus. I think the Y580 would be a great gaming laptop.

on most the cards, the new generation even if rebranded is a lower number i.e. 635m is a rebranded 555m. and 610m is a rebranded 520m so if the 660m is really a rebrand, then i would guess it is a rebranded 570m at the very least which would be awwwwwwwwwwwessssooooome lenoooovo

IdeaPad Y580 Specs, Reviews, & Latest News | Lenovo | The Verge
1.41 inches thick, 5.95 pounds still a bit big for my taste. Not to mention a 6 hour quoted battery life(so probably like 3 hours in reality).
But if the gtx 660m is really a gtx560m or better, then its the smallest one so far with a gtx card, but if its on par with a gt555m or lower, there are thinner lighter laptops around.
The new HP envy 15 that came out a month ago is lighted thinner longer battery life, ati 7690m. IMO is better until we find out what the 660m can do -

the gtx 660m is apparently the successor to the gtx 560m although i don't know if that means rebranded.

There is a market out there for people that want what Apple does well at without paying the Apple price. Attractive, well-built laptops with good features.
I love the U400 concept, and reviews I have read including one here say its a well built machine. If you took the U400 and added:
- better battery life
- 1600x900 matte screen
- SD card reader
- slightly better gpu
- less flakey touchpad
I think it would have done better. -
-
I recall reading on the new u410 a GT 6xx gpu.
okay, just looked. GT 610M -
boo, so weak lol
