"The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 and 15 are available now through business partners, retailers, and Lenovo.com starting at $599."

Where are these on Lenovo.com? I don't see them anywhere.

They were advertised as available on Lenovo.com in Lenovo's press release, however now that you mention it I do not see them there either. It might take a few days . . .

A month ago, I dismissed the Edge 13 because of its excessively business look. Even though I'm a guy, I was a bit put off by the generic aesthetics, though I did pin it as a strong contender against the Sony Y. I ended up holding off buying then when I heard about potential i5 processor refreshes.

Now that the Edge 14 MIGHT have an option to include i5 processors and discrete AMD graphics, this puts the Edge line back into the competition! :D

Hello? Earth to Sony! This is zeth here calling as a potential customer. Your Sony Vaio Y line looks extremely sexy because of its form factor, weight, and sub-$1,000 price. If you guys could introduce an i5 processor update with an early adopter discount, I might just bite!

Could you do us (me) a favor and NOT post these things without verifying the statements within for accuracy? This is not the first time I've seen this on NBR, and I see it happening a lot more everywhere else, too (Laptop Mag, Engadget, Gizmodo, etc).

Rise above please and stop it with the knee jerk "SCOOP!" news posts?

    Thanks! :)

Not to be a party-pooper, but other online mags have brought it to attention as well. This one here even has a picture. I dunno but judging from the articles I've come across so far, it sounds like a legit announcement.

I wasn't saying that the announcement (or rather, the product) was illegitimate; I was referring to the fact that the product is indeed NOT yet available on Lenovo.com yet. The news blurb says it is.

It would be nice if my favorite websites verified the accuracy of the CONTENTS of a post before posting them.

Fair enough. The online mags could've done their due diligence by at least taking a moment to visit the home website to check for the notebook's availability.

The way I'd interpret it, there's a lagtime between the announcement and the actual ability to buy it on the website. Webmasters simply have to create a separate page for the 14s and 15s.

I was looking around Lenovo's website, checking to see if they were available yet. They aren't if you go through the products page to thinkpad edge, but on the main page, if you go to the 4th news picture thing... and hit "shop thinkpad edge", then it shows the 14 and 15 inch versions, with pictures. It doesn't looks completely cleaned up yet though.

Woot! The webmaster's just a hair behind the curve!

Go to Lenovo's page. Select your country (I chose United States). At the left side, click on the 4th tab and you will see an advertisement for "Affordable Thinkpad Edge." Click on the "Learn More" that shows up. Click on the green "Shop Thinkpad Edge" link at the right side.

The options and pricing are shown, but not buyable yet! Looks like they're still doing some website preparations!

BTW if you wanna skip all those steps, just go here.

If you try to click on the "View Models" link located under the headings for the 14 and 15, you will get a "Unfortunately, the content you requested is missing" message. Bummer.

Still, the 4.9 weight might be alright for many, but it's too heavy for me. I was hoping for an i5-equipped Thinkpad Edge 13 or 14 with a 4-pound weight.

I hate how lenovo pretty much never lets you customize any laptop..like really...no customization for these ThinkPad Edge's, and most IdeaPad's.

Why do only ThinkPad Classic models get customization options..its not hard..

It sucks that the 14" doesn't have an option for discrete graphics.

    Intel graphics = FAIL

We don't know that yet. We're not even allowed to select and customize the laptops yet. We'll just have to wait and see.

My belief is the website hasn't been properly updated. Other news sites have said discrete options would be available with no details on whether it would only be for the 15" model.

EDIT: Even the 15" model shows "Intel HD graphics" as an option. The fact that there's no mention of an ATI graphics card as an option in the description doesn't necessarily rule out being able to add it in once the Edge's website finalized. Once again, we need to wait and see.

EDIT2: "Discrete graphics solution" is listed as being available for select models for BOTH. So if the info's correct, we will have ATI graphics available for both models!

Gotta love Lenovo's decision to take advantage of the "Thinkpad" name in laptops which are not true thinkpads (supposedly).

I have an idea. How about Lenovo names the true Thinkpads "Thinkpad Pro". Then these could be the "Thinkpad Edge". Before long, they will be named "Thinkpad Pro Edge" or "Thinkpad Edge Pro". I think you get my point, I don't need to get into the Thinkpad Pro Elite Ultra Precision .............. Edge!

It's not unlike Nvidia's latest renaming schemes.

Ugh... what's the point of having 13, 14, and 15" laptops if they all offer the same resolution? 1366 x 768 is quickly becoming a universal resolution for 75% of laptops of this size, but it hardly is a productive screen size if you do writing, page design, etc.

I like how the Edge 13 with the Intel CULV processor is $150 more than the 14 with the Core i3 processor. Granted that the 13 comes with more RAM, but it's a pretty bad trade-off given the price. So you pay $150 more for a slightly smaller laptop with a vastly inferior processor. I'll take the hit on the RAM, thanks.

    Oh right, I overlooked that.

Even if the Edge 14/15 supposedly comes with discrete graphics, It'll probably be something like the Mobility Radeon 5470. Anything higher and it will take sales away from the Ideapads.

There is a few people interested in Virtualization and Win Pro on their notebooks.

They show the AMD Vision Pro logo, I hope for 5650/5670 will be seen.

Also, wow!, they look nice :) .

I'm seriously contemplating the ThinkPad Edge 13. To me, for the purposes of portability and compatibility, the 14 is too large, and simply would not have enough battery life.

I have searched all over the web, including on this site, and really can't seem to find any forums with user reviews on the 13. I know the blog reviews have been positive, but I really value user reviews. Specifically, I need to be able to multi-task seamlessly and would like to also play smooth 1080 video.

I am also contemplating the Asus UL30VT / JT, primarily because the discrete graphics will make video playback smooth, and the processor is turbo-charged. In my opinion, after spending far too many hours on these threads over the past few months, there are no other viable competitors.

    Any thoughts?

Tell me about it! We all know that it's cheaper for screen manufacturers to mass produce laptops screens at 15.6" since that's now the mainstream, but come on! The difference shouldn't be $150 if the 13.3 contains older parts!

    Not yet.

They are meant to be released in April. Those are just placeholders for the good ones :).

Any specified date or whether it's early or late April?

Judging from the way it's costing so much just to upgrade to 4gb of RAM, I'm not holding my breath on being able to upgrade to an i5 affordably.

if the 13 had a better cpu i'd buy in a heartbeat, but reality is that its too weak so...
does the EDGE 14 differ form the EDGE 15 in general size and weight?

also, can i buy it right now?? (as in "now now")

I like the battery life the reviewer reports. I hope it's true, but even if it is, it's probably at idle, lowest brightness and such... :( There's no way it can go 6 hours, while the culv 13 inch goes 7 hours.

That PDF has no info on the Edge 14. I'm well aware that the 14" version is going to weigh 5 pounds as opposed to 4. That alone may prove to be a deal-breaker.

Thanks for the info. Taken from the section on dimensions:

    13.54" x 9.17" x 1.25-1.46"

Yep. Doesn't look like a good candidate for me. I was hoping for a notebook that would be below an inch thick.

if the edge 13 had an i3 chip that would have been the perfect laptop.

the next step up is the edge 14 - which means 1.8 kilo become 2.22 kilo and only 4.5 hours (official! not tested) of battery.

i must admit i am a bit disappointed in this. i think all of those who are waiting for discrete graphics and a faster chip will get it on the expense of battery life and weight.

Yeah. All this hype and excitement brought our hopes so high only to be brought smack down really hard by all the extra weight and thickness. :(

Guess we can't be surprised. Discrete graphics calls for better heat control though the question remains as to how much better heating control when compared to sub-4lb laptops like the UL30VT-X1 which have switchable laptops.

I'll personally be keeping the MSI X360 as a candidate. It'll more than likely be more affordable than Apple's entry-level Macbook Pro.

I don't like how the silver band is so small on the larger versions, but of course, this is because of how thick it is...bah. I like the 13 inch better, how the silver band is the entire side and not just the top.

I'm sure we'll see A 13.3" Lenovo notebook with a ULV i-series processor. But I get the feeling that the ULV i-processor shortage is causing manufacturers to hold off on refreshing. I'm not so sure it'll be in the Edge 13. It hasn't even been half a year since the SU7300 was put in Edge 13. I'd say give it several months to up to a year.

Ideapad v360 might fit the bill... 13" small business computer with i-core cpu and switchable graphics.

The v460 was supposed to be out in March... and didn't appear. I'm not sure about what delays this V-line. It might be problems with the optimus technology ?
